In tafe today, talkin about motors, my mind woundered sideways and i got thinking..

How Crazy would it be if some company descided to Bring out a

"W32" Motor - 32 Pistons in a W series configuration (Basicall 8 Cyl in 4 rows, slighlt offset from one another in a V shape... 16 on one side, 16 on another.

It would have a massive 8 cam shafts, 4 valves per cylinder = 128 Valves, at about 500cc each cylinder = 16L motor !

Just think of all the belts, moving parts, the physical size of the motor, the cooling system... Bahaha

Craaaazy !!

Thats Awesome :D

I was thinking more along the lines of 2 of them tho, behind one another. That would be something special

and the car would have to be so long to accomodate it, there would be no point because it wouldn't handle :)

everyone notice the presence of the little whistling snails in the above picture. as if having 16 cylinders didn't make enough power

As I'm sure you all know, Bugatti is owned by Volkswagen. The W-shape motor is a Volkswagen design, and a W8 has been available in the Volkswagen Passat W8 in Australia for a while now. Volkswagen were planning on releasing a supercar with a W12 (I can't remember what they were going to call it) but it's been cancelled, but I think they're going to use it in the upcoming Phaeton. And then of course there's the Bugatti Veyron which is due for release soon with it's quad turbo 8-litre W16. Oh yeah, and Bentley (also owned by Volkswagen) have a twin-turbo 6-litre W12 in the Continental GT and the upcoming Continental Flying Spur (I think that's it's name). The Bentley motor makes 411kW and 650Nm. Pretty weak really considering it's capacity and its twin-turbo'd.
