I have a KE70, 4age rally car with a broken diff. I've heard of others breaking and don't want the hassle of nursing a weak diff. What's a good substitute. I've heard mention of hilux diffs. Nice cheap low ratio LSD's are easily available, so I measured one up. It's not as wide as the KE70 diff, and the huge 6 bolt stud pattern looks a bit of a problem. Any thoughts?

Most people seem to use t series diffs. I used a T series in my 2TG KE55 with a TRD slippery, and 4.77 gears and never had issues. That said I have a Mazda B1800 down stairs for the next incarnation, but that's a bit of overkill.

Hilux is a lot of weight to be flogging around under the back of the car.

How do you get away with a 4AG rally car? Do you run it as Schedule R? And did you used to own an Excel?

I'm trying to forget the Excel bit, thank you very much.

I was going to build a car and run RRR, but this new series for next year sounds awesome. I'm a bit worried about building something that might not be in the new regs though. 4AGE in a Corolla should be OK. There was a KE70, 4AGE 20v, aftermarket ECU, Supra box, T18 LSD on Ebay a couple of weeks ago. Sold for $3,800. I cried. That's what I'm sort of going towards. Just the 16v is an easier swap at this early stage.

Anyway, I've heard mention of the T series diffs, but thought they might be a bit hard to source, not to mention the cost of a genuine TRD LSD. Any ideas on availability of the T18 stuff?

Seen this?

# RN2* Hilux = 1370mm width, will measure drum size tonight

# RN4*/YN4* Hilux = 1410mm width, unsure of drum size (i think 8"?)

# UZS131 Crown = G series, IRS, G474 code iirc, non-LSD

# AE71/KE70 = ghey bog warmer, 1410mm width, p00

# TE72 (aka T18) = T sereies, 3.9:1 ratio, open centre, 1410mm width

and ....

NOTE: AE71/KE70 driveline is BOLT IN replaceable with TE72 T-series gear (you need TE72 gbox, tailshaft and diff) DONE

Gday Kelvin. Thought it was you.

You can get T series slipperies for a reasonable price these days. A lot of importers are bringing them in. as for the gears, I got mine from palmside.co.nz (Tony or Chris Scott can help with this, as they know them personally) and the conversion to $Kiwi iis particularly good ATM. The 4.77 that they sell are the commercial gears, not the TRD ones, and are much longer lasting. I know, go figure.

I found the 4.7's a really good match to the T50 box. I originally had 4.1 and the drop from 2nd - 3rd was epic. 4.77 smoothed this out alot. Being somewhat ignorant of the 20V 4AG, do they have more torque than the 16v?

The problem as you're well aware of ATM is that all the drift kiddies want KE70's and the prices for anything connected to them are now on a Cecil B DeMille scale. :)

you were running the stock diff behind a 4age? what about an ae71 diff, or an s series, they also fit and are more readily available, but a t series would probably be the best for your application

OK, T series seems the go. Now, where do I get one?.

My ultimate evolution for this vehicle was to fit a set of 50mm flairs. I made a set for my RX3 rally car, many years ago, not too difficult. So maybe something a little wider may be in order, to fill them out. RA40 ??

I have so much to learn about Toyotas.

Mr Dwarf, do you have a contact for the Scott's.

here's the address for Palmside: Palmside

Dean Buist is the guy you need to email, very helpful, just mention you were talking to Chris Scott, that could be good or bad!!!

T series diff's are the way to go, almost a straight bolt in, an AE86 sprinter diff with disc brakes would be the better but these are worth a fortune.

Try AE86DC forum's, as they come up quite often.

The 4.77 gears with a standard T-50 box is a good starting combo for rallying, if you can get the later sprinter box would be better, larger bearings and output shafts, they handle it better.

If you need anymore info, just PM me or TRD(tony).
