beerhead Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Hey, I haven't done a CA18 into sprinter myself but have wired one in the past. Looked almost like the engine was meant to be there, was a bit tight where the AFM sat but apart from that seemed to be a pretty straight forward engine swap. The only real drama is custom engine mounts / crossmember ... your choice. What's the main shit hit the fan moment your thinking could happen? Quote

I'm sourcing out mounts and stuff like that now . aparently kaizen or sum place like that sell then already done . what wires needed 2 be connected ? can i retain the same harness from the sprinter that goes 2 the starter motor and battery? or do i need new 1's/ people were sayin its only a few wires i need 2 connect up and its not much of a job , can u confirm this? also exhuast 3inch 2 big 2 go under the rear axles? or do i have 2 go over thanks Quote
Sam_Q Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I havent done the conversion but I will be doing a test fit in the process of making mounts. I plan on mass producing engine and trans mounts for an ae86 and corollas. When i do the test fit I can show pics of the engine installed with all the clearences. Contact me if you want to know more. irokin Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 before we start the flaming ,ive been searching every day on information from people that have done the conversion , but theres no real solid information with alot of details and photos i can Its up to YOU to take those fragments of information and put them together so you can complete the picture. You're not going to find one definitive guide to every little detail of the engine conversion. The whole point of research is so you can fill in the gaps in your information. If you have the information and theres specific areas that you need more information on, thats where you post a thread and start asking specific questions. Then, even people who haven't done the conversion may be able to help you with their experiences with that chassis or engine. Quote
ca18det_ae86 Posted October 10, 2009 Author Report Posted October 10, 2009 can any1 tell me if a s13 ca18det dump pipe to cat pipe will still be able 2 be used in my conversion? or would i need 2 fabricate another dump/ front pipe? Quote
irokin Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Dump pipe should work, the front pipe may be too high or low (hit the floor or road). Quote

Ella Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 do i need 2 run a vacuum canister and connect all my vac lines?and does rb30 engine mounts fit for the conversion without mods? 1 to have it legal yes you do, just copy how its setup in a s13, you might have to be a little creative with where you put it but if you can't even do that you shouldn't really be doing a conversion yourself at home. no the RB30 mounts do not fit, thats a rather silly idea. kaizen garage advertise in the ae86 driving club forums, they sell the bits you want.
