nickyboy Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 (edited) ok, YES i have checked FAQ and done some searching but still didnt solve my problem. the story, when i got my ke20 back it had a warped head, so i drove it till it died, the temp gauge went to H and stayed there. i have now put a 4k in and when i connected th temp wire to the sensor it still read H but after about 5 minutes of driving or idling the temp gauge will crawl back to C and stay there, it doesnt move after it has done this, then when i leave the car for a while and start if back up its back on H. i have tried the leave the cap off to let air out of the system, but it still hasnt fixed it, i then i put another sensor in and it still does it. so I'm stuck... have i fried something and its making the gauge bug out? want this issue gone for summer so i know the cars not overheating. don't particularly want to add a aftermarket temp gauge either cheers nick Edited October 12, 2009 by nickyboy Quote
philbey Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Peace of mind, get an aftermarket gauge. Quote
Medicine_Man Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 To eliminate the wiring to the sender and the dash in one hit, Turn ignition on, Remove wire going to the temp sender and touch to the frame/engine block of the car or use a test lead from the negative side of the battery, With the sender wire going directly to frame you should see the temp gauge start to climb from cold to hot. (Full gauge deflection). Quote
nickyboy Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 ok, took the wire off, went to cold obviously. ran some wire from the negative side of the battery to the tester and it went to H again. sorry for being dumb, but what have i proven? :) Quote
Raven Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 You've proven that its not the gauge and that the gauge works and isnt dead to the world. You've also proven that your wiring checks out. Have you got the right temp sender fitted for the operating range of the gauge? Quote
nickyboy Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 ahk, its a 4k temp sensor (4k engine) so would i need a 3k temp sensor to match the gauge because its a ke20? Quote
altezzaclub Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 (edited) ..probably! You could check if you have a meter that will measure the resistance of each temp gauge. It does sound like they may have matched sensor to gauge in each motor and they can't be swapped. Edited October 12, 2009 by altezzaclub Quote
ke20rolla Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Yeah, you definately need a 3k temp sensor :) Quote
nickyboy Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 awesome! thanks heaps guys, will go grab one tomorrow and let you know if its all sweet. Quote
Raven Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 The temp sender has two different numbers. Part number - VDO - 320.043 for 3K and some 4K motors. Some 4K motors use a 320.044. I'd try the 320.043 first. Quote
LukeAE71 Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 awesome! thanks heaps guys, will go grab one tomorrow and let you know if its all sweet. When I was talking to you Sunday I did ask about this whether the sender was shonky?? :) Quote
