Any ideas where to get 2nd hand but good slicks or semi slicks for the ke55 for hillclimbs/supersprints/circuit racing??

 

I know brindabella motorsports club forum was good for 2nd hand rally tyres that were absolutely brilliant for khanacrosses, I'm just having some dramas finding 2nd hand slicks/semi slicks.

 

I haven't got rims yet, was thinking plain steel rims (preferably black) in either 13" 14" or 15" depending on what tyres I can get easily.

I have some old slicks from a Formula Ford, and from a Formula 3.

 

do you live within driving distance to a racetrack where they race either of those categories?

 

If so, get down there next round, and you should be able to pick some up free.

 

The Formula 3 use a kumho the front's are a sensible size, the rears are massive.

Steel rims and slicks are frowned on at some events, so be careful of that.

15's are easiest, but 13's aren't too bad. 14's aren't common.

 

As Dave says Forumla Ford tyres are an excellent and cheap option too. They will heat up pretty quickly since you car weighs near double the Formula Ford but this is perfect for sprints and hillclimbs.

I believe the concern is that the load slicks put on the wheel leads to the welds in the wheels cracking and then the centre separates from the rim. You end up with no wheel half way through the corner. Bugger!

 

I have seen it happen at Winton last year.

 

This year the Alfa club that ran the winton 6 hour relay race banned steel wheels and I don't think its an uncommon concern.

 

Spring for a set of alloys as soon as you can :(

Alloy wheels it is then. I haven't bought anything, was originally thinking steel wheels because they can be cheaper and lighter, but if thats a problem then I'm happy to go with alloys.
