Put lots of fins on it to act as an oil cooler!

haha. Fin's will look the goods but will do SFA as an oil cooler...!

 

I read up a while back on doing your own casting at home, and I got very excited about putting together a pattern to cast up finned rocker covers for K engines... Would be cool but hey it's just one of many side projects that will take me 30 years to get done...

no lols. The idea came when I saw a modfied Chev rocker cover that was adapted to fit a K engine sell for 150 bucks on ebay with mad bidding on it.

so fins? they help cool? and maybe a picture of something like what you are suggesting please.

The fins just give extra suface area to disperse heat - just like an air cooled 4 stroke motor bike would have around the head. But considering the rocker cover.... sorry "engine hat" doesn't get overly heated I personally wouldn't bother.

yeh it won't do shit as far as oil cooling goes, is largely just a big cavity full of hot air.

 

On air cooled motors it's a totally different kettle of fish. Porsches and volkswagens have big fans pulling loads of air through the finned cylinders.

ok so down with the fins idea... does anyone have a polished rocker cover that they are selling... whats the price?

yeah i know or i could just buy one :y: like when i look at mine and look at that one on eBay i think its gonna be impossible to get mine like that....

You'll be suprise what a couple of hours with some wet and dry sand paper will get you!! Polishing is just the last step to get it shiny and finished. Just like painting, all of the hard work with polishing is in the prep work - Ie finer and finer grades of wet and dry. :y:
