ROLLN'03 Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 Hey, as i mentioned once before, my mate just brought a 1999 toyota seca and he decided that he wants to be more quicker, or GONE as he states it! Ive googled it and the best possible solution is that the toyota starlet turbo engine should bolt up fairly easy....... but he doesnt want to lose displacement..... He really love a 4age turbo but its guna cost him.. Does anyone know of anyone else who has done any upgrades to one of these models?? I'm sure it would be alot of messing around to get it turbo charged - roughly $10k... Thanks :D Quote
ROLLN'03 Posted June 30, 2005 Author Report Posted June 30, 2005 Thanks for the info Grimwolge, is there a certain reason why you say this? Do the 4As bolt up or do it take a bit of mucking around... If they do, it would be great to bolt up a 4agze and whck a turbo on it! Quote
ROLLN'03 Posted June 30, 2005 Author Report Posted June 30, 2005 Its the 1.6l 4AFE, has anyone ever had any dealings with these engines? Are they any good?...... He could just turocharge this engine, but it would be a lot more work than a turbo upgrade for the 4agze! Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 being a 99 its probably a 7afe. get a 20v head and stick that on it! to get any gain from n/a you have to spend. Quote
ROLLN'03 Posted June 30, 2005 Author Report Posted June 30, 2005 He would like to turbo charge it, but i think his best beat would be to go for something larger to achieve what he wants..... Quote
ROLLN'03 Posted June 30, 2005 Author Report Posted June 30, 2005 Do they have the same engine mounts? Because that would be a great starting point if they did, and once it is working, he can switch it to a turbo without to much trouble! .... Thanks Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 have a look around... i think youll find some websites people have made after doing this exact thing Quote
ROLLN'03 Posted June 30, 2005 Author Report Posted June 30, 2005 Thanks for the info guys.... Ill get back to you if i find some valuable information.... Quote
Starlet82 Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 Do they have the same engine mounts? Because that would be a great starting point if they did, and once it is working, he can switch it to a turbo without to much trouble! .... Thanks Yes, they have the same engine mounts. turbocharging a 4agze would be a bit difficult since this engine is a supercharged one and has an intercooler mounted at the top of the engine. try looking for a 4agte which is the turbo version of the 4age. Z - supercharger T - turbocharger this is if your mates engine is a 4afe. if its a 2e engine, a good swap is the 4efte. same engine mounts. Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 4agte is a converted 4agze. the 4age was NEVER factory turbo Quote
ROLLN'03 Posted June 30, 2005 Author Report Posted June 30, 2005 The switch from the supercharger to the turbo is pretty much straight forward as it is all there.... just make up a turbo manifold to suit and get a suitable turbo. The 4agze engine is a good strong starting point for a nice power making turbo engine :D (i am very familiar with the 4age engine) :D Quote
ROLLN'03 Posted June 30, 2005 Author Report Posted June 30, 2005 WELL, lets just say that ANYTHING can be found on GOOGLE! :y: I found everything from full direct bolt on turbo kits for the 4afe engine starting from $2500 and a full article on engine conversions from the 4afe to the 4age and 4agze.... Thanks for your help guys, I'm sure that my friends rolla will be almost flying soon..... Quote
demuire Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 Hmm, maybe I should look for full direct bolt on turbo kits for a 3SFE too  Quote
ROLLN'03 Posted June 30, 2005 Author Report Posted June 30, 2005 I'm fairly sure that they were sold at the same website.... Ill try and find it for you. Quote
demuire Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 Haha, no please don't. I don't need to know any more ways of spending my money, I already have too many ways, and not enough money  Quote
