demuire Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 Was sitting in front of my car yesterday while the tailshaft loop was being finished off, and looking at my bumper. At the moment, my oil cooler sits in the gap above the front spoiler: This all seemed like a great place to put it: Well... until the bumper went on: *doh* Anyway, so there I was sitting there, and I thought maybe if I drill some holes in the bumper, I'll get more airflow to the oil cooler. Is it even legal to drill holes in your bumper? And then I realised another thing, I can't really even drill many holes in the bumper, because the numberplate is in the way... Maybe I can move the numberplate too? I think this whole idea is dodgy. What do you think? Quote
Super Jamie Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 take the bumper off, mount the indicators on right angle brackets that connect to the original bumper mount points. seen it done in nz, looks very phat Quote
demuire Posted July 1, 2005 Author Report Posted July 1, 2005 Umm, I don't get it. So the indicators sit further out? The oil cooler is pretty much... right behind the numberplate. It's just left (toward passenger side) of center. Quote
Super Jamie Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 so you can mount the indicators at all. if you were creative, you could mount them flush with the front apron, looks quite factory when done well then just mount the numberplate wherever Quote
demuire Posted July 1, 2005 Author Report Posted July 1, 2005 Oh, you mean to just not have the bumper at all??? Quote
Clown Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 from memory you don't need to have a front plate at all, just shift it to the side. i've got my mr2's front plate bent backwards. Quote
demuire Posted July 1, 2005 Author Report Posted July 1, 2005 Interesting. I might think about this. Quote
Medicine_Man Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 read the D.O.T website, doesn't matter where the plate is on the front, but it has to be readable at a ceartain angle from a certain distance.. Quote
rjenman Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 know a guy with a supra, front number plate is actually on the dash at the front facing forwards... Quote
Super Jamie Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 haha your friend is most definitely breaking the law, i've got friends who've been defected for that found this in qld transport website Legally, the characters on the number plate must be visible from 20 metres away at any point within an arc of 45 degrees from the surface of the plate, above or to either side of the vehicle. Number plates must be permanently attached to a vehicle so that when it is on level ground the plates are upright and parallel to the vehicles axles and not more than 1.3 metres above the ground. demuire Posted July 1, 2005 Author Report Posted July 1, 2005 Nick: If that was strictly adhered to then Walkinshaws were illegal from factory  Quote
Phat535 Posted July 5, 2005 Report Posted July 5, 2005 Nick: If that was strictly adhered to then Walkinshaws were illegal from factory :P when walkinshaws were released you didnt need to have a front plate at all only a rear plate which is why they can still get away with having it like that Quote
