Duckman Posted December 27, 2009 Report Posted December 27, 2009 Hey all Been searching around and can not find anything specific about dash lights being dim. Just wondering if anyone has successfully replaced the stock lights with something brighter? Would these: http://www.ledshoponline.com/automotive_dashboard_bulb.htm T5 dashboard bulbs make a difference? From what I could see when I pulled the dash apart today they look to be the right size. I also installed a VDO water temp gauge today(As the stock one no works). All went fine, yet when I turn the lights on the gauge light flickers slightly. Would this be poor charge from the alternator(got a volt meter and oil pressure gauge on order....speaking of which anyone be able to tell me what size thread the stock oil pressure switch is?)? If I got my multimeter out on the battery would I see the alternator output or just what the current battery charge is? I've just bought a 75A VL Commodore Bosch item, yay eBay, and am looking for a later model KE Bosch item to swap the guts into in preparation of a stereo install. Anyways, Any help will be greatly appreciated. Quote
Murd 55 Posted December 27, 2009 Report Posted December 27, 2009 for the dash lights i think that you will find the illumination bulbs are all t-10's and only 3 of them actually do the illumination but i guess it might be different if u hav the early model dash but i did use some blue LED bulbs in the dash of my 55 was alot brighter than stock! Evan G Posted December 27, 2009 Report Posted December 27, 2009 i had the same problem when i wrapped the power wire around the wiper fuse, every time i turn the wipers on/off the gauge would flicker then come back on. make sure you slice into a good or run a new power wire. Quote
Bamboo Posted December 27, 2009 Report Posted December 27, 2009 Gauges and dash lights have a "step down" to 10 volts. this stops flicker with the 12-14 volts from the alt. If you start tapping this it can cause trouble. Murd has the right idea. LED's draw next to no current allowing you more "play" amps. You can have super bright LED's and not tax the system. the other thing that can play havoc is the dimmer knob. Looks innocent? can be the cause of a lot a light headaches when it burns out. Good luck Quote
