Hi guys

I've had a problem where you can smell exhaust in the cabin of my KE70 thats been there for years and very subtle but getting progressively worse.

Without stripping down the whole thing and looking for a hole, does anyone know of a common place for a hole or something to occur on a KE70 that makes this happen.

It was happening before and after an exhaust upgrade and engine swap so stuffs me if there's an issue with the exhaust somewhere between engine and exhaust tip, its just strange.

cheers, and congrats for the KE20 that won the vote, its truly awesome.

If your exhaust is sealed properly there shouldnt be a problem should there? Id find the leak and address that. If its entering the cabin from the tip, id drive faster. :jamie:. Maybe your trunk seal? Gear stick boot? Get someone to light some inscense while your in your car windows up in ya garage and sniff around for the leak.

Where abouts is the tip of the exhaust compared to the back of the car/bumper. A mates TA22 used to do this as the tip was like 20cm in from the back of the car. We welded a tip onto it bringing the exit to behind the rear bar and the smell stopped.

Another thing to check would be weather you have a leaking manifold gasket, but you should be able to notice this from a ticking noise coming from the engine bay.

I've set off a smoke grenade in my car once before...... Showed up a ton of air leaks too......

Just do it in a shed or something away from the eyes of nosy neighbors and such, they have a nasty tendency to think you've torched the car and call the Fire brigade :P

On topic, try angling the exhaust tip downward towards the road, either that or try the boot seals and the plugs in the spare wheel well, make sure the plastic sheet is still stuck down nice and tight behind your back seat too......

Hey mate had this problem in my wagon and its got to do with the suction vortex that is created at the back of the car I would check boot seal, around tail lights, anywhere there might be a leak... I replaced boot seal resealed tail lights and also found a few other holes to plug up and now the smell has gone. And apparently directing the exhaust pipe away doesn't fix the problem, you have to get it all sealed up.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Chris

ha ha or get people to smoke "incence" inside the car and sniff around.

It must just be seals. If not, dolphins.
