Raven Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 It sorta sounds like a lifter rattle, but apparently these engines don't use lifters, they use shims? are the rockers adjustable? any help would be appreciated. Mick. Quote
mumblezzz Posted July 7, 2005 Report Posted July 7, 2005 All my 4ac's used to rattle. I thought it was pinging. I wouldnt be too fussed. As long as its got oil and water it will go forever..... and ever...... and ever... then pull it out and attach it to a chain on the end of a boat where it will find its true calling. Quote
Raven Posted July 8, 2005 Author Report Posted July 8, 2005 lmao, ya, well, its gotta not fail on me, cos i do a lot of high-revving, you see.... :n: Quote
Raven Posted July 9, 2005 Author Report Posted July 9, 2005 Hmmm, sounds interesting. I thought it may due to the lack of oil or something. It sounds fine if u don't push it, but i don't have a tacho, so I'm guessing at about 3500ish RPM, it starts to rattle a bit. Does anyone know if the rocker gear is adjustable as such? And how hard is it to change a head gasket? Quote
Raven Posted July 9, 2005 Author Report Posted July 9, 2005 Do you have a step by step guide jamie? :n: Quote
Super Jamie Posted July 9, 2005 Report Posted July 9, 2005 other shit off, head off, clean deck, new gasket on, reassemble buy a gregories manual Quote
Raven Posted July 9, 2005 Author Report Posted July 9, 2005 Hmm, i might go ebaying next week..... :n: Quote
Raven Posted July 16, 2005 Author Report Posted July 16, 2005 Did an oil change, still rattles. Sounds like tappets are out of adjustment. Anyone got the specs for clearance? Would love to eliminate the rattle and its definately not the head gasket. :( Quote
Raven Posted July 17, 2005 Author Report Posted July 17, 2005 Looked for an hour. Could not find tappet clearance specs for a 4A engine. sure they're there? Quote
Super Jamie Posted July 17, 2005 Report Posted July 17, 2005 oh yeah, i'm used to K motors :( manual time for you :D Quote
Raven Posted July 18, 2005 Author Report Posted July 18, 2005 I know you are all 4-AC haters, but its my pov-pack performance engine. lol. Just pissing me off with tihs rattle. I don't wanna pull high revs and kill something, like valves. Quote
Super Jamie Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 i have an idea: just set them to something and see how quiet they go you could probably get away with something like 6/8 on a stock engine, 10/12 would definitely be enough to not burn out valves running thicker oil makes your tappets alot quieter Quote
TRD ke70 Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 do you still need tappet info and cam timing info??? i have them here. Quote
