Evan G Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 i have my electronic dissy all apart, (looking down the 4k supercharged path) i understand theres springs that hold the weights, and when the rpm reaches a certain point centrifugal force throws out the weights and BAM advance how did you lock your dissy? i have a idea how to lock it but involes 2 tack welds? jono1986 Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Hey man, i'm not to sure about tac welding, but for an electronic ignition kit that i've got puts a washer in there to stop the weights from moving Quote
Evan G Posted March 2, 2010 Author Report Posted March 2, 2010 mate your a legend! gonna make me one these with a aluminum washer tomorrow! thanks again mate Quote
jason12 Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Ive also heard cable ties work? Or was that something else Quote
Evan G Posted March 2, 2010 Author Report Posted March 2, 2010 dw mate thought of that aswell :blinks: but the temp of the engine bay and rpm, the cable ties wont work Quote
Taz_Rx Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Cable ties work well on a 3k dizzy, you just put them in the slots where those pins come through in the pics above. I wouldn't use them again in a 4k or elec dizzy though, that's what cause my last blown headgasket. :blinks: Are you making one of those washers for the dizzy I sold you Jono? Not a bad idea but I wouldn't worry too much about it, that dizzy was locked up nice and tight. :lolcry: Quote

Also looking at making my own injection system but have to research a bit first Quote
Taz_Rx Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Evan: Just remove the springs and replace them with tie-wire..... not cable ties. Welding the weights up isn't a good idea. I did it once and slightly warped the shaft with the heat of welding. That dizzy went straight in the bin. Locking the dizzy reduces the compression ratio 'at the time of firing' by retarding the timing. Re-graphing the mechanical advancement or modifying a boost retard (works opposite to vac advance) solenoid to the dizzy is a better option. Both myself and jono run locked dizzys for other reasons.
