xmoht Posted April 10, 2010 Author Report Posted April 10, 2010 Just to sort things out in my mind as much as anything else. Immediate plans are; - Flat Front End - Masonite for Cards and Parcel Shelf - Dynamat for doors and firewall - Carpet and underlay Get working engine in! Quote
xmoht Posted June 19, 2010 Author Report Posted June 19, 2010 Herro! Swapped "new" 4K engine in today, noticed it had a lot of little things wrong with it. A big one being the last guy who owned it appears to have tried bypassing the emissions gear. Clutch wouldn't line up with bellhousing though so going to tackle it from underneath in the morning, redo valve clearances and then watch as it doesn't start! Wish me luck ;) Quote
Taz_Rx Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 Has the clutch been taken off it since it was removed from the last car it was in? I can lend you a "K series clutch aligning tool" if you want!? Quote

I can lend you a "K series clutch aligning tool" if you want!? Nah didn't take it off, looked a bit better than the one on the original engine. Just fiddled around with it a bit and it all lined up. Inspiring to hear those first revs of your first engine swap! So it's all in and running, gears are working and all. Thanks for the offer though I'll keep it in mind if I ever have to do it again. Just got to fix a bit of a water leak and do the valve clearances still and then I can take a look at the brakes and suspension and take it down for registration. Quote
xmoht Posted August 16, 2010 Author Report Posted August 16, 2010 Okay so the 4K and everything was working fine but I'm still looking to the future and as such my surge tank came in the mail today! Is this set up correct? With the aluminium bundy tube, how can I attach it? Would it make sense to use the rubber tube and the round metal clips for the fuel tank lines and to the high pressure fuel pump, and just bundy tube it from the fuel pump to the rails and the FPR to the surge tank? If I were to simply run the rubber tubing through the cabin, would I be able to get it through engineering? Quote
xmoht Posted September 18, 2010 Author Report Posted September 18, 2010 So a few weeks ago I spent the weekend giving the boot a quick sand and paint. Didn't get any before photos unfortunately but it had a spray can black paint job that was awful, so trust me that it's an upgrade. Got some MDF and carpet and made up a quick insert to tidy it all up. Still got to get a new rubber for the boot seal evidently. Had to replace fix the exhaust pipe and do a new gasket as it was a bit too smokey. Got to have a look at the starter motor as one of the wires insulation had melted away since the new engine was put in. Everything is still trotting along at an alright pace, soon to hopefully be my daily driver! Quote

If so remove the old small one, use it as a template to bend the new stuff, then put it back in were it was. Clips should still be fine for the bigger tube. Yes use rubber hose to connect things up, just use the bundy tube for the runs under the car. If I were to simply run the rubber tubing through the cabin, would I be able to get it through engineering?- Most deffinately not..... even in Tassie. Quote

xmoht Posted March 1, 2011 Author Report Posted March 1, 2011 Probably start a new thread when it finally gets rego. Just a quick recap. Engine swap and everything went fine at the inspection station but a number of things weren't up to scratch. New brake line, and put new ball joints in the LCA's. Took it back, failed again. Replaced brake pedal rubber, replaced tie rod, replaced tie rod end, tightened wheel hub. Failed again. "Excessive movement in steering rack R.H.S." Replacing the rack and pinion as soon as the replacement gets here and give it a general cleaning, which will hopefully fix the problem. The replacement is a Quaife quick rack. Other items of note are my AE86 struts, which I will be sending to AJPS for coilovers as soon as I scrounge up the money. Getting some T3 steering knuckles to go with it, which like most things it seems are cheaper to buy from the US and pay postage than they are to buy from local distributor. Quote
