sx90seca Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 hey i just bought a 1990 ae93 4age 16v (pretty sure) and my exhaust sounds really tinny. seems like its coming from the flex joiner up the front end. any quick/easy fix's? or should i just save some cash and do my exhaust up (extractors, high flow cat. etc.). also my brakes are stiff as would that be pads, lines or sumthing else? i also need a new central locking switch easiest place to find 1? 19914afc Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 could just be a cannon that makes it sound like that, what exactly do you mean by stiff? as in it takes a lot of force to get the car to brake? if that is the problem it could be your brake booster. Quote
altezzaclub Posted May 24, 2010 Report Posted May 24, 2010 No quick/easy fixes on the brakes... Check that the booster is working, so plug the line to the inlet manifold and try them. They should be a lot stiffer, and if they're not then the booster system has a problem. Check all the pads for wear and make sure the pistons slide in and out OK. They get jammed up over the years with dirt and old brake fluid. You could measure how much each one comes foward in the caliper while you have all the pads out- don't push too much or they will pop out. Check the condition of the brake fluid while you're in there, it might help to bleed out the shitty old stuff. If nothing solves it then maybe the pads are a really hard compound, but usually people just put standard pads in. If you run out of ideas take it to a brake place for an opinion. .. and the exhaust probably has some bit of tin shield loose Quote
rob83ke70 Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 exhaust probably has a tin heat shield loose.... either that or its a really shitty tinny muffler - I've had one of those too!! Reccommended fix, replicate the noise and find the faulty component then replace/repair as required.... if the pedal is stiff, check the operation of the brake booster and check you have good manifold vacuum from the engine... wouldn't hurt replace the brake fluid either if it looks old and scungy although that won't make a stiff pedal. Go and see your toyota dealer for the central locking switch.... probably not as bad as you'd think for a brand new switch that comes with warranty... Robert. Quote
