I want to get it fixed so i don't keep burning out points so any advice would be awesome :) Quote
KENut Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Regulator? Thats where I'd start, I'm no sparky though :) Quote
jono1986 Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Yep, get a regulator, that's the only thing that controls the amount of 'voltage' that comes out of the alternator. Quote
abbott Posted July 8, 2010 Author Report Posted July 8, 2010 Yeah so can u adjust the regulator or do I need to install one??? Thanks for the help guys :) Quote
KE20rollabus Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 your regulator is f@$ked. send it to a auto elec Quote
jono1986 Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Oh sorry, yeah replace it. If it's a bosch type you can just unscrew it and get a change over, auto electrical places carry them and will sell to you over the counter. Quote
son of stig Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Are you using the 5k alternator or the original ke20 one? KE20s have an external regulator (ie not on the alternator, generally on the engine bay sidewall) while later models have an inbuilt regulator. Its not hard to change between the two, but a couple of wires have to be changed, as mentioned here: CLICK HERE Quote
son of stig Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 (edited) KE20 alternator (no internal regulator) 2 different external regulators for KE20 (old and new) Don't have a pic handy of one of the internal regulator type alternators, but theyre a bit bigger and have a black box on the back. And less wires actually leading to the alternator. Sooo yeah make sure you have one or the other. Edited July 8, 2010 by son of stig Quote
RainWarriorDregs Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 random question. i've got a power drain somewhere in my car draining my battery. someone mentioned it could be the regulator? could this be correct? Quote
Evan G Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 random question. i've got a power drain somewhere in my car draining my battery. someone mentioned it could be the regulator? could this be correct? it could be anything, hook up the multimeter between the battery + and the + lead and set the multimeter to amps start removing fuses till you get less than .05amps of current draw Quote
jono1986 Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 (edited) Nice info, but he said it has a 5k so it would be presumed internal type regulator. And rainwarrior, have you installed anything, or has anything been installed that isn't stock? Unless you have to jump start it all the time thus pointing towards the alternator not charging therefore, yes your regulator could be the problem. Oh and after actually reading all the post, i accidently skipped one but still presumed to be internal type Edited July 8, 2010 by jono1986 Quote
