SLO-030 Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 So as some of you guys may know, Gettin' in depth with electrical systems gives me the shits. If i try and trace the problem myself, i'll end up with a Chernobyl style failure. The problem is.. the charge light, oil pressure light don't light up when the key is turned to ignition. When the engine is started, the charge light stays off. Then after a short period the charge light stays on. Alternator you may say? Alternator works fine and charges the battery. When the charge light is on, and the handbrake is applied. Not only does the handbrake light turn on, but the charge light increases in brightness. Same thing happens with the handbrake as the charge light on ignition and when the engine is running. Any help is muchly appreciated. CHEERS Ryan Quote

CHEERS Ryan turn on your headlights with the motor running if the handbrake light dims then it is either your battery or alternator. more than likely battery. Quote
jono1986 Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 (edited) Just a couple of ideas has the dash lost an earth or a power feed, the regulator is charging correctly but is the w/l output working correctly? One big problem is that there are about 6 diagrams in the Gregory's manual and some of the dash wiring is different, on my car the H/Brake and Charging w/l's have a power feed and are switched to earth other's may be different. With the Engine running check that there is an earth feed coming out of the alternator on the Yellow/white wire, With a test light not a multimeter Edited July 20, 2010 by jono1986 Quote

Mate was playing around with the stereo and something arc'd. Dunno if he let some smoke out. Turned on the ignition, everything was like normal. Let it sit for a while and started doing what it is doing at the moment. will have a bit of a gander. Cheers for the ideas guys. Quote
cuzzo Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Check the rear demister fuse. Actually just replace it Quote
SLO-030 Posted July 20, 2010 Author Report Posted July 20, 2010 Righto. Rear demister still works fine. Does that make a difference? Quote
jono1986 Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Try knocking on the side of the ignition switch and see if that does anything, according to the diagram the radio wire (if that's what shorted out) goes straight through the ignition. Sounds far fetched and quiet stupid but the extra current could of done something to the igntion to make it work for a little while. Make sure the plastic cover is off when you knock it. Quote
