This weekend is the BLCC's Winter Classic Rally. Its basically a navigation exercise with some speed tests thrown in. These usually provide some good viewing.

 

All cars will be running at the Ballarat Airport after 1pm both Sat. and Sun. for a number of different tests. One is the traffic school test which involes the cars running around a course on an old bike riding schools roads. They are narrow and can be slippery as they are not used at any other time of the year. The is usually some carnage involved :thumbsup:

 

I will be driving a stopwatch on Sunday so is anyone is free, come and say g'day.

Sounds interesting. I might try and get out there sometime over the weekend.

 

Nick - I have video footage of the last VIC motorkhana that Colin competed in, but i still havent transfered it to my computer. Its all a bit hard at the moment. :thumbsup:

 

If i make it out to Ballarat, i'll get some more footage. From memory, its about a 1.5 - 2hr drive from my place. I have a few uncles and aunties in Ballarat, so i should make a day of it.

 

Isn't Ballarat Airport still operation? Is the traffic school located at the airport too?

LOL, Yeah i'll get onto it one day soon. I have to dig up the instruction manual and brush up on the basics.

I actually copped a virus or something that buggered up my internet explorer. So i formatted my main h/drive (3hrs later). I'm still deciding whether to upgrade my computer, before i re-install all my software again. So leave it with me, i'll get there sooner or later. =)

Whats the best day to view the action - or is it the same courses on both days?

Not driving in this one :thumbsup: . As it is a road rally you need a registered car so I'm acting as an official (so no photos either).

 

Usually they run similar programs Sat and Sun. Navigation in the morning and driving tests in the arvo. The old driving school is on the right hand side after you cross the runway as you drive into the airport.

So just for clarification, there are some events before 1pm?

 

In regards to the road rally part of the day.....is it viewable by spectators?

You said there are events in the morning, but your original post stated it starts at 1pm. Just wondering if there are events in the morning that arent open to the public? Thats all.

Sorry about the confusion. In the mornings the competitors disapear all over the country side on a navigation exercise. Usually the maps supplied are 50 years old to make things mor interesting :D . There shouldn't be any competitive driving at this stage :D ........

 

If they are not to lost everyone ends up at the BLCC club rooms at the airport for lunch, then after 2pm the driving tests begin.

I just got back from this event and have a few pics to share. Unfortunately they are not high quality, and generally the cars didnt take my fancy. Hence, not many pics.

When were you there Kanga, as I didnt see you. I was timing on the actual airstrip where they run the drags.

 

When the other officials weren't looking I ran the wagon through one of the tests just to try it out to make sure it was safe :D . Without trying the time I pulled would have put me midfield. This is in a stock VY2 wagon. The old man did it in his diesel Patrol and beat 4 cars!!!!!!!

 

For the last test the ran a big go to whoa which included a big donut at one end. The Daytona ended up finishing backwards into the finish line :D It had me taking a number of steps backwards.

 

My favourite car for the weekend was the late 60's Bluebird - quick and cheap.

 

The Corolla you photographed wasn't a competitor, they were officialling. Its owned by a couple of kids.

I got there about 2:15 and stayed till 4:30ish. I watched a bit of action at the course out the front (the train crossing and roundabout thingy). Then continued onto the airstrip. The Daytona was a classic - First he stuffed up the donut around the witches hats, and then like you said he backed it into the stopping area. The crowd didnt have much praise for the bloke (he seems to have a reputation of being a hack). :P

 

I saw your wagon parked near the runway entry, but didnt see you test it out.

 

What fuel was that lancer running? Some type of race fuel i'm imagining. (I talking about the one that was always on the track first, before the other one).

 

The black Porsche was nice. The Nissan GTR'(s)? didnt do much for me.
