mikeys toy[RL] Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 (edited) usually i just cruise her at 70-75mph, a/c on, cruise on; so when i mash the go pedal, 5 mins later i'm at 85mph today leaving work, i left the a/c off, held the r's at 2,500rpm (slipped the clutch a little)and wound her through the gears to 6 grand some scant seconds later, i was at 85mph, climbing fast and STILL in 4th she is totally gutless out of the hole, but about when she hits 2,500rpm.........OH SHIT!!!!!!  :P :) bwaa, bwaaaaa, bwaaaaaaaaa, bwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, bummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Edited September 7, 2005 by mikeys toy Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted September 8, 2005 Author Report Posted September 8, 2005 4ke nick.....those 3.58 gears made all the difference Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted September 8, 2005 Author Report Posted September 8, 2005 i have a tiny little turbo.........maybe it will find it's way into the engine compartment it's the stock turbo from a colt she has a HUGE flat spot off idle up to 2,500rpm, then the power just comes on(full throttle) i think mebbe she needs a new fuel pump Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted September 8, 2005 Author Report Posted September 8, 2005 1983 starlet 200,000 mi on it it's alway done this with the injection. presure tested fine before, but volume was low i think maybe the pickup in the tank is too small....it's gotten worse with time injectors were replaces a year ago, 02 sens. is new Quote
blown 5k Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 Cool :P i just put 3.583 final drive ratio in as well cause it was a bit low geared on 195/45/14s with the 3.909.Hows the throttle postion sensor/air flow meter? Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted September 8, 2005 Author Report Posted September 8, 2005 dunno about the afm, the tps is disconnected 'cause the a/c will stall the engine when it goes into fuel cut-off mode i'm gonna play with the air bypas valve and see if i can't root it out i'm running 175/70/13's....may be a bit tall with 14"s....unless you're not running a k engine? ancullen Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 Compare tyre sizes. Blown 5k is running 195/45 R14's which have a circumference of 1668.5mm (65.7in) compared with your 175/70 R13's which have a circumference of 1807mm (71.1in). If you both had the same gearing, when you're doing 100kph (60mph), at the same rpm in the same gear he'd be doing 108.3kph (65mph). So using the tyre's he's using on the 14's he's using, they definitely won't be too tall. Quote
Felix Posted September 9, 2005 Report Posted September 9, 2005 maybe having the TPS disconnected is what is causing your lowend stumble. the computer wouldn't know how much throttle you are using. maybe look into hooking up a vacuum switch to your aircon. so when you go back to idle, it switches off. mikeys toy[RL] Posted September 9, 2005 Author Report Posted September 9, 2005 i've got a cool little circuit i've drawn up so i can flip a switch when cold and have fast idle, i just haven't made it yet. the prob with the tps is that the computer senses the rpm is too high at idle and goes into fuel cut off mode, so i get that idle up/down/up/down/up/down. i usually plug it back in when the weather cools and i don't use a/c but it's always had that flat spot, just not as big ANCULLEN; wouldn't i actually be going faster at the same rpm if my circumference was larger?
