Hay pll, i have a problem with me ke70 and need some help......

 

The car batt has been dying i broke down and racq came out and said the alternator was stuffed, so i got it changed over but still have the same problem, what else could it be? the batt holds charge and so does the alternator but everytime i go to start it its so dead the central locking will not work, but as soon as you put jumper leads on it will start... Is it the starter motor? iginition? need all the advise i can get? and what can i do to test if its one issue or another?

Check all your cables. ground cables, positive starter cable, the starter trigger wire. Clean their contact points then reattach them, but check their resistance also. Make sure the battery has enough demineralised water if its not holding enough charge.

 

The regulator for the alternator might be stuffed. Once the car is running check the battery voltage, if its over 14 volts the reg might be stuffed if its the separate type that isn't built onto the alternator.

it sounds like something is drawing power from the battery when your the car is off. I would start by checking that inertia and boot boot light (if installed) are staying on. The next step I would do is get a Amp meter and pull each fuse out one by one and put the leads of the amp meter where the fuse would go. Making sure the ignition is off. Be sure to test them all. Any of the reading that seem to be high there is a current draw on that circuit. In a KE70 i would only think the clock circuit would have any draw from it or if u have a alarm that circuit would have a minimal draw also. Hopefully this would help you out

id just spray all my wires with wD 40 seems to solve all my electrical problems

Check for continuous drain as thatdude said-

 

First thing, disconnect it when you get home at see if it starts the next morning-

 

Then take off the negative terminal and put a small 12v light bulb between the wire and the battery. If it lights up then something has a path to earth and that something is draining your battery. Find it!

 

With no alternator at all a car will run for days unless you have the headlights on.

 

 

Have you done any work on the car recently?

 

My last problem was fitting the O2 sensors, which have heaters in them, and I picked the wrong wire to power them. The symptoms were exactly the same as yours- good battery, car started with a jump, but both mornings the battery was flat. I changed to a spare wire by the coil that was ignition controlled. (made sure that time!)

another thing to consider how old is the battery. It could be the battery just doesn't want to hold charge anymore or has a dead cell. From what our battery suppliers have told us a battery should last from 2 to 5 years

if the battery is stuffed there usualy is a black residue on the inside of the fillercaps on the battery. however check ur terminals for corosion and work down the line earths, fuses, conections, check anything thats been fitted recently headunit wiring and the like.
