I have recently fully reconditiond my 4kc motor, We put it in the car have everything connected, Set the cam Dwell angle while cranking over, Also ajusted the timing with the timing light. there is fuel getting into the carby, Brand new plugs, leads and dizzy cap. Bosch GT40 coil.

 

Have been trying to get this started beczuse i am eagre to get it on the road.

 

If anyone has any sugestions i will try them,

Has it fired at all?? A cough, a backfire??

 

Can you see a spark if you have a plug sitting on the motor while cranking? You may have a wiring fault that means no spark at all.

 

Is there fuel pumping down the carb from the accelerator pump?

 

Stick your hand flat over the carb top while someone is cranking it for 4seconds then take it off- the carb should be wet with fuel.

 

How confident are you in the cam timing you set up?

I was thinking about this last night and didn't know how to answer, if you were able to do the timing it means you have spark. You say it's getting fuel to the carby so there are only a a few solutions and they are that the cam is out, the valves could be cracked open a bit and a few other things that i can't really think of.

absolute best way to do timing is get piston 1 on to top dead centre ....

does anyone by any chance have a pic of a 4k carby "79 ? i did mine but i think i got the lines wrong theres like 10 of them ....

best way to do the timing is get piston # 1 top dead center and line the dizzy up - take out spark plug and when it gets to top if it doesnt go 180 spin the dizzy- works on every car i ever owned

my 4k wouldnt fire and found out its that ballist resistor thing near the coil, just join the two wires together to test so it bypasses it.

New progress, turns out the carby isnt sucking in the petrol it is blowing it out the top.

 

RAA said the timing chain is out, but we lined it up like it said in the manual.

 

Please help I'm stumped.

Did you align the markings (the two dots) opposite of each other.....

 

 

the red dots indicate where the marks are on the crank and camshaft

we used the workshop manuel in the local library which is'nt as clear as the diagram you supplied. The cam is definatly in the same position as your diagram shows, But unsure of the dot on the crank.

Probably worth it to pull the cam cover off and check man, cause if you have fuel and spark there aint much that's going to stop it from going.

check you don't have a random wire from the positive of your coil earthing anywhere. Happened to me the other week. (stupid aftermarket tacho's) Ultimate facepalm! :bash:

I don't think a random wire would cause air to come through the carburettor.....especially since he said he's done the timing........................
