brendan Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 (edited) Hi al I bought a gilmer drive for my 70 though the gilmer drive gear for the alternator is smaller in diamiter can I drill it out to fit ?(the shaft on the altenator)or do I have to swap the altenator to the other one with the smaller shaft? Cheers Edited December 2, 2010 by brendan Quote
Taz_Rx Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 Either or really. The hole thats there is obvisously centred so just make sure it stilkl is if you drill it bigger. You might also find that you need to make a 10mm spacer to bring the water pump pulley out a bit if using a KE70 style water pump. Quote
greenmac80 Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 instead of drilling try and use a lather if you have access to one. guarenteed centre then. Quote
brendan Posted December 2, 2010 Author Report Posted December 2, 2010 Na I don't want to lath the shaft on the altenator I was thinking of drilling the ppuly hole biger haas any one had this problem and thanks for the water pump issue Quote
ke70dave Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 yeah you don't want to be doing any manual drilling on anything if we are talking about pulleys. if you are the slightest bit off centre you will just flog out your bearings in your alternator. just take the pulley and your alternator to your nearest machine shop and get them to fit them. they will do the correct tolerances to give it a nice fit etc. prolly cost you 20bucks or something, its a simple job with the correct tools. and if you need that spacer that taz is on about get them to do that too. brendan Posted December 2, 2010 Author Report Posted December 2, 2010 yeah to do that there's the other corolla alternators that have the smaller shafts mighty as well change alternators over Quote
