SLW42 Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 hey guys and girls more mechanically minded than i, i have a bog stock 5k in my daily and it idles at just under 2000rpm i am wondering wtf is causing it to do it, i have tried turning the idle mixture screw out and to no avail it still idles at 2grand, i wouldn't mind the high idle if it had a really pissed off cam in it but it doesn't :( . But the fuel bill hurts my wallet and it's thin enough as it is, so if you guys/girls could rack your brains and throw some ideas up to try to bring the idle down i'd be cheering  Cheers Quote
jono1986 Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 Have you tried turning the idle SPEED screw out a bit? Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 (edited) Yeah bro the idle screw might help :P can't find my 5K carbie to take a pic :( Slightly shorter acc cable or need adjusting? Choke held open some how? Edited December 9, 2010 by blzbub666 Quote
jono1986 Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 Choke gets held shut to idle up*, if you disconnect both the throttle and the choke cables what happens? And what's your timing set on? Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 (edited) I stand corrected, ^ what he said. :rolls: As always, I blame terrorists. :blazin: Edited December 9, 2010 by blzbub666 Quote
ae824ate Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 I reckon check all of the above. Id leave the mixture screws how the are and check the idle screw, make sure all of the vacuum hoses are connected and in the right spot. If you have moved the mixture screws already, wind them in then out and find roughly where the middle is, then you can tune it from there. Probably didnt help much, but thats where id be starting. Good luck. Quote
SLW42 Posted December 9, 2010 Author Report Posted December 9, 2010 no vacuum leaks, if some body could get a pic up of said speed screw i'd be cheering Quote
Evan G Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 its a small screw where the throttle cable meets the linkage. its located on the otherside of the linkage Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 For a 4K carb, may help, should get you in the ball park, maybe. :hmm: Quote
19914afc Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 (edited) Air leak? my car had a small air leak between the carb and the manifold and was idling high. Just get some carby cleaner and spray around the base of the carb and around the intake manifold and if the idle speed changes you may have an air leak, or you can do the same with water in a spray bottle. Otherwise sticky choke? throttle cable adjusted incorrectly? I also had a AE92 with 4afc and the throttle shaft bush was stuffed and caused an air leak, so there are many things that could be making it idle high. Edited December 9, 2010 by 19914afc Quote
