ancullen Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 Okay, so not so long ago a mate came to me and said he needed to buy a car. At around the same time another mate said he had an AE71 sedan for sale, in not too bad nick, for $500. I made a deal happen and $450 was swapped for an AE71 that needed another $500 of work done on it. The buyer is still happy, as is the seller. Now, just last week the buyer has come to me and said that his mum, who currently has a severely rusted out AE71 wagon, needs a replacement car, preferably a very similar car as he thinks she doesn't want to learn to drive a completely different car. Then this morning, after waking from a dream which included an AE86, a friend of mine SMS's me to let me know he wants to sell his AE86 (I kid you not, the dream happened). He wants it to go to someone who'll look after it, and he wants $4,500. This AE86 (owned by deeone), has a 4A-GE and Commodore disc brakes. Now as if enough coincidences haven't already happened, the mate's mum comes to see me tonight at work (at Coles). She asks me if I know two guys who have left a card on her bonnet, asking if she wants to sell her AE71! I don't know them, but I called them on the number they left, and they said they were interested. I asked how much they wanted to spend, and they told me to name a price. I said $1,500, thinking I wouldn't have a hope in hell of getting it, and they said yes straight away!?!?! So now all I have to do is try and talk the AE86 price down a little, and there should be a deal. The best part is, that as soon as I have enough money I can buy both the AE71 sedan and the AE86 off the mum & son!!! I've told the mother that if it's still in good nick when I've got the cash, I'll give her $6,000, and I'd happily give the son $1,200-1,500 for his AE71 as it's definitely worth it (it's the brown one in the cruise pics). What do you guys think? Is $1,500 good cash to be getting for a very badly rusted AE71 wagon? I haven't checked out the AE86 yet, so I don't know what it's worth. I'll post when I know more. Quote

Nick got his ae71 for $51 i think. i wouldn't be paying $1500 for a rusted ae71 wagon. maybe $300 max if it had some good bits going for it. no idea about the ae86, you would have to give more info. they are overpriced things..... ancullen Posted October 7, 2005 Author Report Posted October 7, 2005 (edited) The AE71 wagon will be a HUGE ripoff for the buyers if they pay $1,500. But hey, if they're dumb enough, I'm not going to tell them otherwise. And last I checked with the owner of the AE86, he'd put in high-lift long duration cams (Toda or HKS, can't remember which), has a set of 4A-GE 20v quad throttles waiting to go on, and has a spare AE86 he rolled (no gearbox in it though as I bought it ). Worsed case scenario if the mum buys it for $4000-4500 and she can sell it to some drift idiot Inital-D wannabe wanker for $6000. With the money she makes she can get herself a reliable little AE101 or something. Edited October 7, 2005 by ancullen Quote

beerhead Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 Such a pity now though, used to be 4-5 cartons to $100 when I was first able to drink. These days it's hit 3! A rusty ebay special corolla could keep you pissed for a month, now a fortnight would be pushing it. Quote
Clown Posted October 8, 2005 Report Posted October 8, 2005 I paid 150$ for my rolla with a bit of rust  Quote
