altezzaclub Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 Ah- things must have come ahead. You wouldn't get much extra pressure from the Datsun 1600's inner spring, it did almost no work at all, and valve lift was not a big deal in the 1970s. Quote
Felix Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 (edited) I've got a set of doubles in my 5k. Didn't set them up myself as they were on the head when I got it. The retainers are std 5k as far as I can tell, and the springs are aftermarket Holden blue doubles from what the previous owner told me... Good for 8500. The inner springs are the ribbon type dampeners like what philbey described. Edited February 10, 2011 by Felix Quote
coln72 Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 Sorry, my question is why bother when the standard valve springs in a 5k will handle 8000rpm anyway....... Quote
philbey Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 Sorry, my question is why bother when the standard valve springs in a 5k will handle 8000rpm anyway....... Yeh good question, I would be asking the same myself. TRD valve springs seem like expensive overkill, buy a newer better set of Crows, keep the TRDs as a talking point then sell them in 10 years to the NOS crowd for loads of money. The only reason I changed my standard springs was because one failed me. Regularly saw 7000 revs and drove it as a daily for 12 months before it failed. My cam has .480 lift, well and truly beyond the standard .38 lift. Quote
greatskinz Posted February 14, 2011 Author Report Posted February 14, 2011 problem solved guys. the guy i bought it from sent me a set of valve seals of what we can only suspect for now is intended for a nissan. but fit and works perfectly though, another slightly off topic question. i got an x30b cam, tried searching for write ups about it. any thoughts? lift? duration?
