Hi guys,

Got a 4K-EFI setup a while back, with the intention of putting it on my 5K. I was wondering if it's possible to get an after market ECU like the standard one it came out with. I want to get this thing running, but don't want to spend ridiculous amounts of money on a performance ECU.

If anyone has pics of the original ECU for these things, I'd love to see them!

Thanks

not exaclty sure what you are asking mate.

but if you don't have the standard ecu, the only option is to get a programable one.

it comes down to how much work you can do yourself, are you good with wiring/electronics?

in your circumstance a megasquirt ecu is the perfect option, but its not an easy task to wire one up.

Yes, that's the one!

Think I'll place a bid on that. Too bad the loom has been cut right back, would have to re-wire it. Still it should deliver enough fuel to my 5K, and should run fine. Will be way cheaper than an after market one anyway.

Thanks for the link! :laff:

On second thoughts...

Does anyone actually know if the standard ECU can keep up with a 5K? I'll be running higher compression with a modified ignition system and bigger injectors.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

The Ecu's from EFI camiras are good for K series injection. A bloke down south wired one in to the K injection and it started first turn of the key and idled smoothly.

They can also be programmed with the right gear.

And also the pulsar from the same era. I believe the commodore one can also be reprogrammed for use as well.

The camira and pulsar versions were a 8 bit ecu. The commodore started at 8 bit and, i think it was the vy ended with a 256 bit ecu.

The ecu's in question are Delco. But they did have one little problem called "Delco disease" - a wire track on the circuit board would lift and break.

"Kalmaker" is what you'd want to google for.

yeah ive heard about those camira ecus.

too much effort though.

$252US + post, complete programable ecu

or $152 us + post if you are handy with a soldering iron

Thanks for that, sounds like the best buy around!

That should be perfect for me, will buy it I reckon. Just need to fit a return line to my tank, install electric fuel pump and oxy sensor I think. Is alot of work, but will be worthwhile. Can't wait to get this EFI setup going, I'm pretty sick of carbies!

Cheers

An alternative- Maybe?- I used an N13 pulsar injection setup on one of my ae82's, which then got turbo'd without many drama's. The simplicity of the injection system attracted me to it. Prolly not much help.

That N13 injection setup that would have been a Centre Point Injection, yes ?

Luke you made me remember Brodie's setup

Frigging awesome setup that thing

Na Rob, it was a multi point injection setup. Ive seen a few people have sucess with single point, or throttle body injection though. Simple cheap form of injection hey.

that is very cool!

sorts out most of the problems easily!

and if you have an EFI manifold to go on, don't need to worry abou the throttle body injection.

i like how he has done the crank angle sensor. thats nifty!
