I have a completely stock 3k in my ke20. When i first start the car i use the choke to get her goin and untill shes warm. Then i don't need any choke while driving around. Can drive for as long as i want. All sounds normal right? then when i stop the car, n let it sit for a bit, 10-20mins i start her up and she seems fine, but after i drive off and have to stop (traffic light or somehthing) it stalls. so i start her up again but have to leave the choke pulled out half way. I can drive for an hour or so (sou'd think it would def be warm again) but i still need the choke pulled out bout half way, otherwise everytime i go to stop it stalls. But it drives for hours the 1st time i start her up with no choke! what the??? Can anyone explain??

checked timing only 2 weekends ago. was out, but i adjusted it. shouldn't go out again in such a short time without changing something should it??? thanks for the reply tho :wink:

vacuum leak!

G`day mate, what Evan said. Its gotta have a vacuum leak somewhere. Get a can of wd40 or similar, start the engine and start squirting around the manifold to head area. Then the carby base etc. You will see the spray dissapear and also get smoke from the exhaust. Check your brake booster for audible leaks too and also check the pcv valve to see that the valve is still working. (take it out and blow/suck the tube. It should only work one way.)

P.S. if you did the timing recently check that you didn`t accidently damage the vaccuum advance tube.

Check the fuel pump pressure, could be a rooted valve in the pump.

Wind the idle speed up a little when its really warm. The choke may be only raising the revs for the first half, then it richens it as you pull it out more. That's how I've set mine up.

 

Idle speed drops as the motor gets warm, well, mine does anyway but that's on SU carbs...

Hot idle compensator? Not sure if they were on the 20 carbs, the ke3x had them.

Wanna hear more about the "hot idle compensator". how do i tell if it has one? or can some1 confirm this? sounds like its a pretty good description of the problems I'm having.

 

otherwise i will try borrow my mates petrol pump!

 

Worst case i will change the choke to when its really really warm (when problem starts).
