And supposedly Nissan were having real problems with turbo-ing the VQ V6's. I assume they've found solutions to their problems by now though.

 

And I didn't say that the 350Z was the same as the GTR, or even that close to it in performance, however I'm sure that it would do quite well in Group A spec with a highly tuned (but still nat. aspirated) version of the 3.5L V6 and some other good race bits.

Are you saying anything with a V8 is a boganmobile??? By that definition the Ferrari 360 and F430 are both boganmobiles!!! I think not somehow. If we're being that broad with generalisations, GTR's are all ricemobiles because they've got turbos.

 

A boganmobile is really only a povo-spec car loaded up with an oversized motor at a low price. A GTR with a 4.5L V8 that revs hard and gets serious horsepower from being a well designed and advanced motor is by no means a boganmobile. It's a boganmobile destroyer, which makes boganmobiles eat its shit, then shit out their shit, which is made up of GTR shit, and then eat their shit again, which is made up of their shit and GTR shit!!!

Well...I havent seen a standard boganmobile V8 make peek power at 8,500rpm and have the engine mounted in the back (omgwtfbbq!?!?). Even if nissan makes an engine to rev that hard and make big power I still don't think it suits the character of the GTR. I recon they should come up with a new all alloy RB26 :harhar:. Or maybe increase the capcity a bit if your so inclined? It'll still shit all over bogan mobiles and shit their shitty shit f@$k shit crap shit...

So basically you just want an inline-6, not a V6 or a V8. But I'm sure I've read somewhere that there is greater strength inherit in the design of a V6 compared with an inline-6. I think I'd be happy with a 4.5L V8 option, so long as it could be tuned up to at least 600hp with aftermarket mods. Instant power, no lag, nice.

V6 greater strength? I wouldnt think so. I know they have terrible harmonics problems. Havent seen any 1800hp V6s...but there is an 1800hp RB26 (2.7L with the stroker crank)

it's a fact of physics that an I6 is a naturally balanced engine. some V8s and H8s are naturally balanced, depending on design. inline, horizontally opposed, and V-type 12 and 16 cylinder engines are also naturally balanced, as is a W16. nothing else (including I4 and V6) is, and so must be counterweighted against vibration. this tends to be a problem when you're pushing the engine well beyond 200%VE

Come to think of it I have heard about the harmonic problems that result from the V6 design, however I'm certain I've also heard that the blocks are stronger than that of an inline-6. But you're right, the inline-6 is better when harmonics are taken into account. I'd still take a V8 GT-R over a turbo GT-R.

Another good reason to keep the RB.....have you ever heard a V8 that sounds as sweet as the deep burble of a nissan straight 6. V8s burble...but its raspy and horrid.

definately, a v8 with a nice sounding exhaust note is hard to go by, but the RB26 and 1JZ/2JZ have the most orgasmic exhaust note ever!
