Super Jamie Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 for those of you not aware, the DOOM MOVIE is out now doom is, oh you know, only my favorite game. EVER! i can finish it all the way thru on the hardest difficulty and not die once :( going with my other doom nerd friend tomorrow night, will let you know how it is. now i can't read this topic until then incase somebody posts spoilers :) Quote
Medicine_Man Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 It's meant to be pretty good apparently.. Quote
Ruts Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 I am seeing that tomorrow night too - but AFTER I have seen The Exorcism Of Emily Rose Quote
ancullen Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 If you read the first issue of the new teen boys magazine Explode (it's like Cleo for guys), which I made the mistake of buying, there's a section about the Doom movie. There are also two complaint letters, the first from some Christian group complaining about the Doom game, asking that it not be released (good f@$king luck to them), and then a complaint letter about the Doom movie - from Doom nerds!?!?! They ask that the movie not be released as they have heard that the initial project that goes wrong is not a teleportation experiment, and that the starting point for the movie is Earth instead of Mars or Phobos, and that Hell is not actually unleashed like in the game. Unbelievable. There was no way the movie was ever going to be exactly like the game, because that would have to be the most boring (but cool in a gory kind of way) movie ever made. Works in a game, not in a movie. Quote
Nitephyre Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 For some reason, i'm not hugely enthused abut seeing it.. Hell, the games were/are great.... but for one thing I f@$king HATE The Rock... *shudder* Also, i'm SURE they could've gotten by WITHOUT doing FP viewpoints... Anyway, no doubt i'll relent after what people say about it, go and see it and then maybe enjoy it... ? Quote
ancullen Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 The Rock rocked in Welcome to the Jungle and Be Cool. Hell, he was even cool in the remake of Walking Tall. Never seen him wrestle though, and I think I could manage to go through the rest of my life without ever doing so. Quote
Super Jamie Posted October 28, 2005 Author Report Posted October 28, 2005 2 hours till doom time... :( :) :) if this movie is good, i'm making a doom emoticon! :P Quote
Super Jamie Posted October 28, 2005 Author Report Posted October 28, 2005 jury's in. don't bother. it's not even a good movie on its own, never mind a faithful reproduction of the game, the novels, or even in the spirit of either i repeat. do not pay money to see this film :) :) :P :n: :n: oh hold on, the chick has nice boobs. one star :( Quote
Jason Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 i knew it would be shit, games - movies suk balls. Quote
Super Jamie Posted October 28, 2005 Author Report Posted October 28, 2005 as time goes on, i am becoming of the opinion that it is impossible to make a good movie based on any book/game/other media vampire chronicles sucked. lotr sucked. leigh reckons street fighter and mortal kombat sucked (dunno havent seen them). the alien series was possibly the only acceptable conversion so far, yet the books are still FAR better. oh, and johnny mnemonic wasn't too bad Quote
Nitephyre Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 (edited) i would -love- someone to do Neuromancer, but unfortunately there is ALOT of room to f@$k it up.. i like johhny mnemonic, have it on dvd along with Hackers.. still need to get Lawnmower Man (both of..) and a few other cyberpunk(geek) movies :( yes, the mortal kombat movies ARE cheesy, but thats part of why i love 'em.. gotta buy those too... although street fighter DOES felch... alot. Super Jamie Posted October 29, 2005 Author Report Posted October 29, 2005 i probably wouldn't see a neuromancer movie. it's my favorite book in the whole wide world, i own 3 copies of it and i've read it so many times, anyone who made a movie of it would just rape it in my eyes william gibson has said chris cunningham is the only person he'd trust to make a movie in the same vain as the book. this from william gibson aleph webpage: Originally the rights to a movie version of Neuromancer were held by a company called Cabana Boys Productions, but eventually were reverted to Gibson, even though director Chuck Russel ('The Mask', 'Nightmare on Elm Street 3', 'Eraser' etc) wrote a script and did some preproduction (but nothing more) in 1990. (thanks to Script Hound for this information) The rights were sold again, to film company Alliance Communications, with producers Staffan Ahnberg and Peter Hoffman and supposedly Robert Longo as director. This project was stalled after the bad performance of the 'Johnny Mnemonic' movie. ¶ Apparently the rights were acquired by Seven Arts Pictures, and then it was rumored that the movie 'Neuromancer' would be released around 1999/2000 and directed by the British director Chris Cunningham. He has been acknowledged for directing several music videos for Aphex Twin ('Come to Daddy', 'Windowlicker'), Madonna ('Frozen') and Portishead ('Only You') and is also known for his fx work in movies like 'Alien3'. The producer was rumoured to be Alex Lightman but recently one talks of Peter Hoffman. Even though the 'official' website www.neuromancer.org has been put off-line as of June 2000, the project still seems to be on. According to Seven Arts Pictures, the development company, Cunningham is still collaborating with Gibson on the movie script on the film. hackers was a good movie, was it a book too? we should have a cyberpunk/po-mo book thread :( Quote
ancullen Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 Lawnmower Man was so bad Stephen King demanded that his name not be linked with it. Double Dragon was about the only semi-reasonable games movie, but I may be thinking it was better than it was due to only watching it once when I was about twelve. Quote
