Clapped out Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Hi fellow rollaclubbers, Okey doke, i'll apologise in advance.............sorry for my stupidity! For the life of me i can't remember the name of a rust converter i was recently told. Description of the rust converter is that if you have a lightly pitted/rusted surface (will be using this on a corolla roof) and apply this particular substance its draws out the rust particals imbedded in the metal surface over a period of time (eg. lets say overnight) and once satisfied with the result, just remove by wiping with a cloth. I know it starts with the letter "D". Anyone who can enlighten my retarded mind...........please do so, cheers phatke30! Quote
ae824ate Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 (edited) Hey phat, i use the 3M brand rust converter, and it does much the same job. Probably not the same product you are thinking of though. Good luck, Luke. Edit. Oh yeah, ive seen Deox C and Deox gel used, awesome stuff. Edited May 31, 2011 by ae824ate Quote
Clapped out Posted June 1, 2011 Author Report Posted June 1, 2011 thanks for the reply guys, muchly appreciated! i feel 10% smarter now. Whats your personaly opinion with the 3M brand? Worth looking into? cheers phatke30! Quote
BUZ440 Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 Matt, Please don't tell me your having probs with your paint, and this if for another car Quote
Clapped out Posted June 1, 2011 Author Report Posted June 1, 2011 Lol! Na no problems with phat, I'm going to be stripping the 38 p/van down again, i wasnt happy with it the first time round. Quote
BUZ440 Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 Interesting, will need to come and see you for some parts and a beer also 19th of June its on again Quote
ae824ate Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 I reckon the 3M brand works pretty well, but needs a wire buff or a sand afterwards to remove some deep pitting from surface rust spots. Quote
7shades Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 Deox is effing fantastic stuff... But god damn its expensive. Its main advantages are it seeps into all the cracks and holes, and when you scrape it off it leaves no residue. Just a quick wipe with w&g remover and hit the bare steel with etch primer, rust never comes back.* *Unless of course you live near the beach in Cairns, where you could park in a giant tub of RP70 every day and still get bubbles under the paint after 6 months /grrrr whinge bitch moan Quote
Clapped out Posted June 1, 2011 Author Report Posted June 1, 2011 Ive been told its everything other than bad, Thats why i want to get my hands on it, thanks shady. Have you looked into a product called galmet? Its a marine based rust converter and sealer all in one, can be applied to damp surfaces too. Simply paint on...........and it does the rest. Problem is you can't use it on a finishing surface, great for sill channels, pillars, behind guards that sort of stuff. cheers phatke30! Quote
7shades Posted June 2, 2011 Report Posted June 2, 2011 I've heard of Galmet, but I've always used POR15 in the same sort of applications... No complaints, slap the shit down over anything and everything :) Quote
