4Age In Ke55 Troubles

hey guys.

so iv finally got my 4age running, at first it was fluxuating at idle really bad because it was sucking to much

air, so we figured out if i block the throttle body air ports it idles properly..

so then i took it for the first test drive after nearly a year of building and it goes like shit, like worse then the original 5k,

which doesnt make me very happy.

whgen u put your foot down it just revs out and barely goes anywhere???

has anyone had the same experience with this sort of thing?

its just a standered 4age 16v completely rebuilt..

the only mods are the inlet manifold was cut and shut and shortened at the flange due to it hitting the master cylinder.

thats really the only thing i can think of.. or the standard diff ratios arent right.. I'm not too sure really..

so yeh I'm in need of some help so i can drive the bloody thing.

Have you had the motor apart?

 

Sounds like lean mixture, so air leaks, or fuel problem... or cam timing.

 

yeh i completely rebuilt the whole motor,

i thought timing and adjusted that today so its spot on..

I'm thinking maybe shortening the manifold has just blown the

intake out of porportion but i wouldnt of thought before that would happen.

also i took out the tvis..

Are you running the standard ECU and you have taken out TVIS? That could be your problem seeing the computer is designed to run with it.

yeh I'm running the standard computer, i have a 100kw 4a ecu also

so will taking out tvis make it not run right? will it go like a piece of crap like i said?

if so what would be the best option for a cheap half descent comp?

and then it will require a tune yeh?

Well the ECU is designed to run with TVIS, so it is a place to start.

 

Also does the motor rev properly or does it feel as if there are low/flat spots whilst you rev it?

 

The 100kw 4a's ECU has different plugs to the Bigport (i am pretty sure), so you can't change them over unless you change the plugs and possibly(?) a few sensors to suit the ECU.

 

There are quite a few computers out there, but I guess it depends on what you want to achieve with the motor. If you aren't looking to modify the motor (upgrade to turbo or modified NA, down there road), then it may not be worth getting an aftermarket computer, as it will be quite costly - ECU cost price, installation, tuning etc. ECU's come with a base tune, but you will need someone to fine tune it to reach it's full potential, so the costs add up.

 

How did you get the manifold on without the TVIS plate in there? I am pretty sure the holes don't match up correctly.

so i spoke to a specialists and he thinks the tvis shouldnt effect it that much..

 

well all i know is i have two different computer which both plug up fine so maybe its not the 100kw one..

 

today i was playiong around with the vacuum lines but i couldnt find out what the vacuum is meant to be at at idle do you know? i also noticed when you rev it the timing doesnt advance properly do you klnow what it should advance to bcoz the books don't say..its very strange bcoz it all seems fine but just wont go like it should..and when you rev it there isnt flat spots..

umm the bolts matched up fine without the tvis..

32-33 seems to be the max that people like to run with 93 octane on a silver-top; I've heard of people running blacktops all the way to 36-38 degrees at full-throttle, although I wouldn't do it.

Without the vac on it, set up the maximum to about 30-33deg then get readings every 500rpm from idle to max. That's what it really runs on, as the vac should only add advance on over-run or light cruise if you're using ported vac, or it will add a lot of advance at idle as well if you're using manifold vac.
