Hey guys,

 

one of the pistons in my front caliper on my ke36 is seized

 

does anyone know if i can put the front brake setup from a ke70 onto the ke36 as my mate is wrecking a 70

 

would be putting caliper, disc and pads on if this is possible

 

any info apreciated :)

No point changing the discs over unless yours are warped or heavily worn, the ke36 and ke70 discs are the same so just change over the caliper/pads and you should be right.

also need the dust covers/backing plate things from memory. But I could be wrong on this cause I last did this nearly 20 years ago.......and it was on an early '35

Yes, you can change Ke36 Discs and Pads to Ke70 ones.

 

Dad and I did it for Ollie because:

1) My Brakes were Seized.

2) I just happened to be wrecking out a Ke70 at the time.

3) These were Girlocks from a Heavier Ke70, so the Ke36 will pull up better.

to free up a cailper.

 

1)remove one pad.

2)put the caliper over the disc again.

3)start the car to build up some vacuum.

4)push the pedal as hard as you can.

5)get out and check the piston.

6)push the piston back with a screw driver

7)repeat.

8)bleed brakes

 

 

and shes good as new!

Depending what year KE36 you have, the KE70 brakes will be an upgrade.

 

Both 180mm diameter discs. But where the 75-mid 77 KE3x's have 10mm thick rotors, the Mid 77 -79, KE55 and KE70 have slightly thicker rotors.

 

And the early KE3x's will have sumitomo where as the later KE3x's, 55's and 70's run a PBR caliper.

my ke36 is a '79

 

the beacking plate for the ke70 brake i got has a staggered bolt pattern but the ke36 is even (only 2 bolts lign up)

 

there seems to be a problem with the brake booster i think because it was keeping pressure on the brakes even with the new calipers and i know they are good :S
