hey peoples, not sure if too many people have done this, (know of one) :)

in the near future I'm rebuilding my ke20. when i say rebuild i mean completely strip it, redo the body and then fit a 13b turbo, rx7 5 speed, hilux diff, brake upgrade etc. just wondering if anyone has any info at all that would help me with this project.

Cheers heaps

Tom

13bt_ke20 is a member on here. find him and his rides thread and if you ask him nicely via pm he will probably give you pointers but in saying that won't spoon feed you all the info.

goodluck and give my old 20 the love it deserves :)

cheers Tom

you can get a crossmember lugged between the chassis rails, and use a 12A turbo timing cover which will bolt to said crossmember,

there are a few places that can fab these,

I would envision would be legal in a KE20, given you upgrade all ancillaries etc etc,

How deep are your pockets is the real question?

A rotary conversion is the same as any other. Engine & gearbox mounts, fuel pump and lines, clutch (cable to hydraulic), tailshaft and and axle strong enough, brakes on the said diff/axle, speedo drive, thermo fan or pulley driven fan, and the biggest job is WIRING!! And mating it all in with your existing body wiring. And of course, make sure it is all legal before you begin, talk to an engineer or the like. Not sure how it works in SA. It is a bloody big job, be prepared for that. It has been covered time and again. If you are able to do most of the fabrication and electrical work yourself you will save alot of $.

I will hopefully be doing a similar conversion mid next year if all goes to plan, and i know what i am in for, i have done it before, and its a big, frustrating job for a DIY'er.

12a in KE20 can't be engineered in SA, car is too light. Mick went thru the same when planning 12a in his KE25.

Will need to be passed as an ICV. Now, thats just for a 12a, Good luck for the 13BT.
