Twinky Posted January 17, 2012 Author Report Posted January 17, 2012 The valve in the rocker cover seems to be non existent as i can blow in and out of it. I know that it is the sump as when i turn the car off you can hear it venting through, i stuck my finger over the suspected leak and it slowed the venting/leaking. cheers Quote
Evan G Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 you need that one way valve connected to a good vac source and the other tube to be filtered Quote
altezzaclub Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 The valve in the rocker cover seems to be non existent as i can blow in and out of it. So... is this a massive air leak into the motor?? Something is not right with this story. You need clean air going in and dirty air being sucked out. I'd run a tube into a plastic coke bottle for a few days and see how much vapour comes out. Block the one into the intake and see if that makes a difference to the running. There should be a PCV valve on the motor somewhere, maybe the tappet cover line is the clean air in, not vapour out, with the PCV under the injection manifold like my Pintara. I couldn't find it for ages until I saw one at the wrecker with the inlet manifold off! :laff: The sump gaskets leak at the drop of a hat, so quite likely you don't have an over-pressure problem, just a sump gasket like mine! Twinky Posted January 18, 2012 Author Report Posted January 18, 2012 There seems to bee quite some pressure building up and there is allot of air coming out of the oil cap when I take it off. I was wrong about the PCV valve, it seems to be clean air in. What would be vapour out the original owner decided to block it off. So this is how I will do it. PCV goes to before throttle body (atmo) New barb fitting on fuel pump blanking plate goes into plenum (Vacc) Or is it the other way around? Took the day off work today so should all be hunky dory by the end of today. I love the fact I can just tell my boss that I'm not coming in, I still get paid and it does not come from any annual/sick leave. Flexie time for the win! Quote
Trev Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 The 4k uses 2 rocker cover breathers, the one at the back of the engine goes to manifold vacuum, the one in the middle goes to before the throttle body preferably as close to the air filter as possible. Quote
altezzaclub Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 (edited) Just as Trev says. I had to re-do mine with the twin carbs. The yellow line contains the PCV & goes to the inlet manifold after the throttles, so max vac. The green line goes behind the air filter so lets in clean air. The PCV shuts under high vac (at idle) so won't let air through and fumes go out the 'in' tube into the air cleaner box. The PCV opens at low vac, (high-speed acceleration, Wide Open Throttle stuff) so it can suck the much greater volume of fumes getting past the rings, and clean air goes inwards through the "in" tube on the air cleaner. Make sure you end up with the PCV valve facing the right way. Edited January 18, 2012 by altezzaclub Quote
Twinky Posted January 18, 2012 Author Report Posted January 18, 2012 All good! so far that is...... PCV valve goes into the plenum, blanking plate breather goes before the throttle. No oil leaks to speak of and no blow outs on the gasket. Gave it a good revving and nothing leaking as of yet. I'll have to test it on the road to really make sure but at the moment everything is good! Quote
Twinky Posted January 18, 2012 Author Report Posted January 18, 2012 (edited) Ok ok, pics as requested... Sorry but it's a bit messy. Didn't clean it all up just in case I needed to do the job again. PCV going to plenum. Blocked vent (tried getting it off but it's jammed in there real good!) New vent on blanking plate. 1/4 inch barb. liquid metal around the edges just to make sure. Onto the throttle (atmo side) And something else I was toying with :) Gilmer drive for the charger! And for the keen eye, yes the charger isn't in line. Havent tightened up the bolts so no need to panic! Edited January 18, 2012 by Twinky Quote
altezzaclub Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 That should work better than stock, seeing stock has the two hoses six inches apart and that's all the clean air that gets in! Keep an eye on the oil buildup on the throttle body. mmmm... supercharger whine! Quote
