ancullen Posted August 12, 2006 Author Report Posted August 12, 2006 A 4A into your car is far easier than the 4A into my car. There was a KE70 model, and an AE71. All you need is an AE71 crossmember and tailshaft, and a 4A-GE and T50 gearbox and you're set. It'll all bolt straight in. The conversion on my car wasn't as easy from what I can tell, but it still seems relatively simple. Escort/Cortina engine mounts to bolt the engine in, a hole cut in the transmission tunnel for the T50 shifter to poke out, and possibly a relocated transmission mount. And a custom made/altered tailshaft. Quote
ancullen Posted August 12, 2006 Author Report Posted August 12, 2006 As for racing at Hidden Valley, make sure your car doesn't have any leaks or anything, and you'll need to have reasonable tread on your tyres (road legal that is). And as long as your brake lights, seatbelt, etc all work fine (as they have to for road use), you won't have a problem. I don't know about having the NOS in the car though. I don't know if the officials will have a problem, however there are a couple of policeman who quite enjoy racing, and if they caught wind of it they might not be so friendly. Oh yeah, you've got to bring your car down to the track between 11am and 1pm on Saturday the 26th for scrutineering (where they check all this stuff), and then come down on Sunday by about 8.30am to start racing. You'll need to get a CAMS licence which costs about $85 and lasts 12 months from when you get it, and there is also a $22 entry fee for the event. Plus if you want a pit bay it's $35, but you can go halves with someone else, as this is what most people do. Don't know if my Corolla will be ready in time as I'm having delays getting parts, but I'll definitely be racing. Quote

Ella Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 hey adam do you use the garages at these meetings? Quote
ancullen Posted August 13, 2006 Author Report Posted August 13, 2006 Killswitch - you don't have to go to a hydaulic clutch - mine is still mechanically adjusted. Ella - yes, I get a pit bay each time. It now looks pretty certain that Lola will not be racing. A guy had advertised some parts that would have been PERFECT, but hasn't bothered to get back in touch with me. However, I will, repeat, will be racing in a Corolla. Was going to bring the Starlet, but have decided that I need to know what sort of lap the black Corolla will do. :laff: Quote
Ella Posted August 14, 2006 Report Posted August 14, 2006 wanna share a pit bay or do you already do that with your mate in the blue torrie? My mate josh in the blue wrx will be down too, hes prolly gpong to get one too so i might share with him,... Quote

Hey dude, got the 5spd I bought off adam a while ago but its just missing a KE70 5spd extension housing... I thought it'd be here by now (its long over due...) so I'll try chase it up. The 5spd that came in my parts care I'm going to keep, which wasn't the plan... but its whole! Quote
ancullen Posted August 15, 2006 Author Report Posted August 15, 2006 Ella - Sorry Luke, I already share with Anthony in the Torana. Should be good to see another Rex down there though. More Corollas are better too. imnost - The next race meet is Sunday 27th of August. Scrutineering is between 11am and 1pm on the Saturday. Warm-up starts at around 9am on Sunday, with racing starting at approximately 10am. Unfortunately the yellow Corolla won't be there this meet, as I'm still waiting on a replacement intercooler. The seller has finally got in touch with me, but the car won't be ready until the September race meet at the earliest. I'll be taking my black Corolla down instead. wasfishing - yes, I was interested in the MR2, but not at that price with the body damage it had. I was going to try and knock the price down, but now it's gone anyway. Would buy your AE82, but I'm so over FWD at the moment. The only thing it would be good for to me is the engine, but I can pick up a 20v with Microtech for $1,500, so I'll have to pass. Killswitch - I hope you're having some luck with that extension housing. I know it's been a bit of a bummer with what's happened, but I'm sure you'll get it eventually. BTW, any suggestions for when to have a cruise and what to do? Quote
imnost Posted August 15, 2006 Report Posted August 15, 2006 cool i mite b there need new bracks then ill go out Quote
ancullen Posted August 15, 2006 Author Report Posted August 15, 2006 New calipers, or just pads? KE55 calipers and KE70 calipers are the same, so I can do you a set cheap if you want. Quote
