Addicted Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 I am having some drama with my AE82 hatch. It is a 1.6L Manual (4A-C) and I and my mates can't work it out. There is a miss in number 3 so I swapped leads with a good set off my wreck, running on 2 to 3 cyl now. If I take to number 3 lead off, nothing. Put it back on, nothing, but hold it 3/4 inch away from the plug you can hear it arking and it fires on all 4... Any ideas ? Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 Does it have a condenser or is it all electronic in the dizzy?? Holding it 3/4" away makes it buid up a higher voltage before it fires. Swap the plugs from 1 & 4 to 2 & 3, so you get good plugs in the middle cylinder for a start. See if they die immediately or it runs fine for a few minutes then kills a plug. Might pay to take the rotor & the dizzy cap from the wreck in case yours has a crack somewhere. Quote

Hate changing plugs unless nessecary as I have been caught out with second hand cars by cross threaded plugs grr Thanks for taking the time to answer. Oh how do I talk to a mod, I have forgotten my password and no longer have the matching email account due to password too. I had them saved in my computer and it has died... silly me ! Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 Just PM Redwarf or one of them from a post they've made. So.. the module can pump out enough grunt to fire a plug, and you've sorted the leads. That leaves ECU problem not telling the dizzy to fire, rotor/cap short, plug problem, or something internal like compression. Sooner of later you'll need to change plugs, so it might as well be now! Just make sure you put a touch of grease on their threads and screw them in by hand. Quote
