  1. A friend has a motor for sale 4A out of an AE71, will this bolt up like a FWD 4A using my mounts or are the blocks tapped differently. Thanks
  2. Thankyou so much, I did not even think of just taking the grill out. Thankyou, but If I need to take the bumper out... Thanks again
  3. What is the best way of removing a front bumper on an AE80 hatch short (not seca) I want to put the driving lights near the grill and don't think I can get my hand under the bumper to do the nuts up Thanks in advance.
  4. Long shot, but if not fuel mine was similar with heat and sitting and then restarting and power wise having nothing at points. It was a Bosch Ignition ( BIM 024 ) module in the raised housing on the distributor
  5. Penrite HPR30 is the go, used it for the last 20 Years. Ke70Dave Penrite HPR50 is for older motors as it is 40/70
  6. Thank you for your help so far I really appreciate it
  7. I have never run 0 before, I went by the factory sticker under the bonnet, valve clearances have been done, running 98 supposedly but now it is like I am running ethanol blended fuel (91) I am changing fuel stations when this tank is out and following your advice, even the mechanic said his book showes 5 deg + - 2, no I was not blocking off the vacuum hose at the distributor, will do so. Location is Leeton NSW Trev. also turns out I need a bottom end the Gudgeon pin in one of the cylinders has got sloppy and is quietly and randomly tapping away, thought it was clearances and after the mechanic did them he heard the noise I had been talking about. basically it is pinging 0 to 10 degrees, less at 0 so it sounds like if 0 is good for 91 I have shit fuel ?
  8. if your tugging the wiring near the combo switch and it is upsetting/pleasing the gremlin, is it a combo switch wiring problem/plug.
  9. nope back to zero degrees guys well zero to 2 degrees I have no Idea as it used to run 5-7
  10. I am also thinking there is a plug over the mixture screw at the back, can this be taken out without the carb removed. Exhaust is black, plugs are dark and I think there is room to lean it out
  11. light is almost on on the coil lead, tyres are at 37, seems to give the best handling (they are the 14 inch seca pizza rims) I agree the auto will chew what 20 % power will the change in timing make a difference, I'd be happy with 8 around town, best I have got is 8.4L I had the timing on 5-7 originally but on the third tank of fuel it was continually pinging so I went back to factory and the pinging was not so full on... could this of been a crook tank of fuel ? Thank you for your Help, with being made redundant I need to try and get this thing running the best I can
  12. ok I can't get it to keep a steady on the marks I can get 10-12 or 8-10I have it on 10-12 10/11/12 and back loading her up on brake there is no pinging, just need to get the missus to drive it when she wakes up
  13. speedo says 161K but I am getting the valve clearances done as she is a bit tappy, uses no oil, either hard life or wound back speedo my guess so not sure Will try the timing as soon as the rain eases up, I have a light . will see how 10 goes Thanks for answering will post how it goes
  14. I have bought and got running a Corolla AE80 2ac Automatic and combined driving it is giving me nearly 10/100 fuel wise, are these things that f*&king thirsty timing is on 0deg per bonnet sticker. drives smoothly with as much power as you could expect, running shell 98. It is not stop start capital city wise as I am bush but you do get 60km/h signs. Air filter is good, plugs replaced oil is decent not getting soot or crap through it. Trans isn't missing a beat. no a/c Any ideas. Please help
  15. I see people with them in NSW (I'm in NSW). It is something I can google, I was just interested to see if any Corolla fans new about the application of them into a AE series
  16. Had a freaky thought tonight, has any one put an AE80/82 or other AE series on airbags. I'd love to drop my car on it's arse when it's parked and adjust ride and incase of defect raise it for defect clearance. If anyone can give me some ideas, info or places in NSW that do it please let me know
  17. So, then you can disconnect the battery for 30min ? Drive it as you want it to be programmed and your done. Just for my future reference as I plan on removing my 2AC to a corner in the shed
  18. I am from NSW, but Country NSW so Canberra is 1/2 the distance than it is to Sydney. My Corolla Is a Povo Pack CS AE80 Hatch, not Seca that I have fitted with CSX gear. It ain't flash, It ain't fast (1.3L auto) and it has a dent in the passengers side door. But Hey It's mine, It's what I want and one day I'll be different and put a starlet motor and 5 spd in it (near bolt up). Whilst it isn't a mean machine I am on a pension and spent $700 buying it, $500 in parts and it passed NSW Blue slip first time Woo Hoo. So would it be welcomed in a meet and when do they happen ?
  19. Maybe because it's red (Really) and it's a Corolla it just wants to go fast Oh and Compression is 150 across the board so mechanically the engine is fine and it has good spark + 2 Carbies (one rebuilt) are doing the same thing
  20. It's my old car, It has a 4AC 5spd manual. Head has been redone 40k ago. now when I had it, it was no where near as bad however it may have been an infant gremlin. I swapped the relay for the cooling fans and they ran once, put a new relay in and they haven't run again. It was a once off. It had a shitty idle that improved with leads and plugs. The car is running rich, it has a shit load of power, drives well but will NOT now idle below 1400 rpm approx. I bought the emmisions control, body and engine Toyota manuals off ebay and everything as far as emissions is hooked up right. Can't do the timing properly because I can't set an idle. Basically the idle is set as if you were trying to keep it running on 2 cylinders. at one point on the 4 plugs one was reddish, 2 were sooted and one was lean. I can not hear an air leak, but I am wondering if it may be time to do a manifold gasket due to trying to get the exhaust/inlet 2 piece set up square. I have been working on cars for 17 years and I assisted with the manifolds going back on and I'm quite willing to admit to my friend and say well, maybe I got it wrong if it is looking like a manifold gasket. Thing is I can't hear a leak
  21. If it is like my 4AC there is a bosch BIM 024 module under a cover on the side of the distributor. Exact same issue with mine. If you are driving and the engine is turning but no revs on the tacho = IGN problems... Coil and or module is my best guess
  22. I have a 1985 AE80 Corolla with a 2AC engine and auto. It almost feels like kick down is engaged as it shifts late and won't go into drive until 70, with foot flat (kickdown) it is about 105 km/h. 1st to 2nd sometimes you need to lift the foot off at 50 km/h for it to change. Sometimes it is like driving a manual, but with out a clutch. I have checked the kick down cable and there is a few mm of play in it, fluid is just under where it should be by a bees dick, had it slightly overfull and no change. Trans has had new filter and new dexron III fluid put in. Every Trans place says oh we'll have to rip it apart so may as well rebuild. 1 grand thanks, All gears physically work if you drive it at a fast pace or are on the open road, but my gf is trying to learn in this thing and the way it is she won't be able to use it for the test. at 60 it holds second gear if you lift off put back down or go to 70 (speeding) coax it in to drive and go to 60 it is fine sits in drive. Please help (PS 3spd auto no O/D)
  23. Does any one have, or know where I can get some from ?
