Addicted Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 Booked the car in for Rego, and realised today that my seatblts in the front are not retracting properly, they need to be fed back in and they take up the slack as I go... Is there anyway of lubricating it to get through rego or adjust it Or am I just screwed and need to fork out 150 per side on after market ? Quote
parrot Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 Wash the belts, you may find they will improve substantially Quote
Addicted Posted June 29, 2012 Author Report Posted June 29, 2012 I just pulled one out to clean it, think I have let it go to far back in as it just grabs... bolted it back in the car to get the angle right and it just grabs, won't give ? Quote
ATOYOTA Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 I had the same problem. I pulled the assembly out, took the cap off to take a look and.... PEEYOOIIING! The spring just EXPLODED. Don't pull the mechanism apart. I lubed it up, bent the spring back to give more tension, and eventually managed to cram it back together only to find it was in the exact same condition. Go to your local wreckers and find a KE70, then if the reels are better than yours yank the bastards out. When it keeps grabbing and not pulling out it means one of two things: the inertial reel inside the mechanism is gunked up/fvcked, or the ratchet is buggered. The inertial reel is basically a tiny plum bob which flicks a hook up into the ratchet (under gravity forces ie. when you crash/roll or park on a hill :/) and locks your seat belts up. The ratchet (as you probably already know) locks up when you suddenly pull on the belt. Quote
