19914afc Posted February 9, 2013 Report Share Posted February 9, 2013 Has been done in RWD form before, not sure about in a ke70 but would be similar to a 20v into ke70 just more expensive, not sure what gearboxes they use in them, they use them in the lotus replica kit car things. Budget about 10k including suspension, brakes and maybe a diff upgrade if you make enough power. And that's if you can do pretty much all of it yourself. I reckon if you did it yourself it would be like the 2azfe I'm converting except add maybe 2k to sort the issue of the bell housing. So assuming you build a car to the same specs as mine but with a 2zzge, you'd spend a little more for the motor, and the 2k extra to adapt a tranny. Otherwise its probably pretty similar. I just crested 12k this week on my build, and still with 2.5k to spend on it. So realistically, you'd spend 18-20k yourself doing the 2zz. If you've never done an engine conversion before it would be impossibly complicated. My figures on my build represent all facets of the vehicle. Engine, suspension, wiring, ecu, interior, chassis, paint, modified diff, etc. Engine alone if you had a minter to put it into maybe 8-10k to get done right. And you'd still need a better diff and brakes. Id love to see a v6 corolla with an mz or gr series v6 engine. Id also love to see a 5 cylinder volvo or ford motor. 19914afc Posted February 10, 2013 Report Share Posted February 10, 2013 I have roughly spent 7k on my car so far, not much else needed to get it going other than some lights for oil pressure and whatnot, and some wire for the rest of the car. LittleRedSpirit Posted February 10, 2013 Report Share Posted February 10, 2013 The difference between yours and mine Jake, apart from 1.6 litres of capacity :paperbag: , is that the 2az is a fwd only motor like the 2zz. With the 1uz you have the gift of rwd specific configuration and a known tranny combination. Thats why your coming out cheaper. Its a lot better not having to make manifolds from scratch. ke70dave Posted February 11, 2013 Report Share Posted February 11, 2013 (edited) This link here gives "alloy race components" as a supplier for a bellhousing....from 2005. www.toymods.org.au/forums/tech-conversions/1694-2zz-ge-into-rwd.html http://www.alloyrace.com/ If you are serious about the conversion id be giving someone like this a call. there seems to be a few clubmans with this engine, upside of a clubman is that you generally don't have a firewall to contend with, you can mount the engine a fair way from the firewall (my mates clubman has a huge airbxo between the 4age engine and the windscreen!). edit: sounds like the electronics (specifically the varibale valve timing) is much more complicated than the bellhousing problem. Dad had an S40 so I got to drive it quite a bit, so much torque! It would chirp to third easily, was always good fun at the lights with Commodores. Pretty sure theres a white 2 door KE70 in sweden or something running a trubo 5 cyl (presumably volvo or the like). Sweet bit of gear, fully stripped, caged, exhaust travels through cockpit and exits in rear quarter where the rear door would have been on a 4 door keto.
