brodie Posted June 26, 2006 Author Report Posted June 26, 2006 Cluster... umm... tacho cost me about $70(trade). All the other gauges were lying around. They are 75mm gauges (speedo and tacho) and they just screw in to the original facia once u have gutted all your existing crap out of it... plus a little but of rewiring... and the temp sender on the block has to be changed to a vdo type... and I have screwed a mechanical speed-pulse generator onto the gearbox making the speedo cable redundant. This also drived the cruise control. Then I made a jaycar kit go give me a fuel readout in litres remaining. Nothing hard, just all time consuming. Quote
ScottKE1X Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 Nice looking '30 mate, 2 doors are the way to go. Love the pepperpots. Scott. Quote
Dan Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 Well to be honest, apart from converting the carb to mechanical secondaries rather than vacuum, i pretty much just bolted it on and have had no problems getting it to run nicely, although i used to have flooding bowl issues before i got a fpr Yeah, I understand the issue with the flooding.. You see, a mates corolla has got the Gemini carb on a 3k that seems to be very similarly modified to yours (eg. cam, head work etc), and we haven't been able to tune it properly - it seems to either run way too lean or way too rich (the latter being what seems to occur often)... I guess that he'll have to give it a good clean, and we'll try tuning it from there. This might be a hell of a n00b question, but what is a FPR? I'm guessing that solved the flooding issues; the thing floods like a bitch and seems to get way too much fuel.... Btw, Mitch - your car was a dog to start today :) flooded like a bitch Quote
brodie Posted June 26, 2006 Author Report Posted June 26, 2006 Sorry, FPR is a fuel pressure regulator. Just goes inline between the pump and the carb, mine is adjustable and has a gauge so you can set the correct pressure. Cost about $80. These carbs seem to like about 2 psi. My pump produces about 8psi. Before I fitted this I had fuel spilling onto manifolds at idle! I did initially have some issues with air leaks on this carb, having fixed these its not too bad, but being mechanical secondaries it bogs down a bit if you mash your right foot at low revs. Also these carbs seem to block jets pretty easily, at one stage it kinda did what you've described and had no mid-range anything, idled ok and flat out was ok but nothing in between. Carby cleaner fixed this. Did you guys port the manifold when u swapped the carby? They don't match up very well. Still a much better carb than the Aisin tho.. Quote
counc Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 sweet looking ride there bud keep up the good work cheers :) Peter Quote

We didn't convert the carb, he got the car with the Gemini carb on it. I'm pretty sure that his intention is to take it off this weekend and give it a clean, it needs it. Sorry about the FPR question, my heads not switched on, a friend just installed one in his sidecar... We might have to suss that one out... Today, the f@$king thing wouldn't even idle. It even threatened to stall at 2000rpm takeoffs... even after warming it up for a minute or two.... I'll let y'all know how we go with it. Dan. Quote
st.nick Posted June 29, 2006 Report Posted June 29, 2006 Where and when did you get it?? Its not a melbourne car is it?? White interior with black carpet... Hmm thats a bit rare. Mine is the only other KE30 2dr (also 'butterscotch' orange) I have seen with that colour config. Is it an SE (badge below the driver's side taillight). Did it have black pinstripes when you got it?? The car I am thinking of was kicking around Melb when I was on the Spirit of Tas. It was parked near Beacon cove, and I put a note under the windscreen telling the owner I wanted first offer if he ever sold it... When it came up for sale... I was not in the position to buy it!! f@$k!! You guys should have seen it... Absolute minter!! Not even a speck of surface rust!! And a identical twin to my KE30 2dr. I still wish I'd grabbed it... ;) Quote
brodie Posted June 29, 2006 Author Report Posted June 29, 2006 No, not a melbourne car sorry, adelaide actually. Was my grandmother's car, she ordered it new. Yes it has black carpet and ivory interior and was a base 'L' model. Never had black pinstripes. I have seen 2 other butterscotch 2doors here in SA, would have paid dearly for another myself too!
