bfhoovey Posted December 28, 2025 Report Posted December 28, 2025 Hey everyone, I have been making some good progress with replacing suspension components in my ke55 Corolla. The inevitable happened and I snapped of a bolt while replacing the rear shocks ( I got it out without too much hastle). But googling reaplacing the snapped bolt, I should use higher strength bolts when it comes to suspension components, do you have any reccomendations on where I could buy replacements or if thats overkill? Additionally, I am now able to purchase the BEAMS engine I want for this project but I can't for the life of me find any available for purchase in Brisbane or overseas that ship internationally. Marketplace is just as dry, do you know any importers who take orders for the like? Cheers! Quote
parrot Posted December 28, 2025 Report Posted December 28, 2025 (edited) Contact Craig at https://justjdmimports.com/ and see what he has on the shelf. I've not dealt with him personally, but a number of friends have over many years. And he is in Brisbane. Many general parts like bolts can still be bought cheaply from Toyota. Look up your model here: https://www.toyodiy.com/parts/q_G_1980_TOYOTA_COROLLA_KE55.html if you signup you will also get the part diagrams. Then order via: https://en.impex-jp.com/ They are better than Amayama in my experience, but can only source parts in Japan. Toyota bolts are very cheap. Or take a sample to your local bolt shop. They will be able to supply an appropriate replacement. And most important of all, buy a torque wrench and Toyota manual for your car so you don't overtighten things. altezzaclub Posted December 28, 2025 Report Posted December 28, 2025 Your local wrecker... if they still allow you into the yard. Every bolt that gets taken off a Toyota gets hoovered up when I go through, people leave them lying around when they strip parts. The wrecker actually has 20L bins full of mixed bolts, but they never sold. You will need a collection of all sorts if you're going to keep the car. While the Gen5 Altezza 3SGE revs better, the Gen 4 from a Celica not as tall and should be an easier fit. Its down 10KW and 10N.M, not noticeable really. Any bolt stamped 8.8 should be replaced by the same. There are higher tensile strengths than that, but I don't remember them on a car. Just don't buy bolts from a hardware shop. Quote
Mr. 427 Posted December 29, 2025 Report Posted December 29, 2025 (edited) u can send the bolt sample (probably few others too) to the engineering workshop somewhere near u and let the machinists make a few of those from AISI 1040 rods or grade 8 rods. that's the last resort, ofc. bfhoovey Posted December 30, 2025 Author Report Posted December 30, 2025 Thanks guys. I've found some part diagrams that let me pick out the replacement hardware that I need, I'll probably come up with a lsit so I can replace them all in one go. Messaged Craig and tehy said they aren't getting any in soon, so bad luck but thanks Parrot. I think I'd like to stick with the gen 5 BEAMS, I've become pretty attached to the idea and I love the way the engine looks too. Plus, if it's too tall I'll just slap a big scoop on the bonnet if it sticks out XD Quote
parrot Posted January 1 Report Posted January 1 There's a BEAMS AE86 page on facebook. A guy on there, Glenn Booth probably knows more about 3SGE's than anyone on the planet. He's in Melbourne but may have an idea on how to source what you are after. He races an RA45 with a highly modified BEAMs Quote
