gearb0x Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 Hey guys I was wondering if anyone had replaced the green tinged screen on their AE71/KE70 instrument clusters? coming from a T-18 the green tinge really shits me off Its flat and only glued on, looks like itll be simple to replace, anyone done this, any pics? Nitephyre Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 (edited) it's not the clear cover that gives the tinge, but the green bulb covers inside. they're not had to take out, my dash is just the yellow/white light of the globes also, search for KE70 Dash to get an idea Edited July 21, 2006 by Nitephyre Quote
Teddy Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 Actually, it is the perspex that gives it the tinge. But yes, the green bulb covers also add to the horrid effect. Weather they from new had SLIGHT tinting, and time has made them go as tinged as they are now, or if thats how they were from factory... i don't know. Ive got 8 of them on my desk atm, in pieces (for my custom dash proj) - and all 8 are tinged. Quote
Nitephyre Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 i hadn't noticed any tinge once the covers are off matt, but eh *shrug* Quote
tas_ae71 Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 you might be able to get some new thin perspex to replace it all together.. insted of mucking aroung with old stuff.. Quote
Teddy Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 I'm getting a new custom piece of clear made up for the custom gauges I'm making.. will let u know how much it costs once its made :lolcry: Quote
tas_ae71 Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 (edited) what i ment was buy an off cut of perspex rip out your old one trace around it, then cut it out, drill some small holes, too easy and shouldnt cost more than a few $$ btw, are they actual glued in? mine wasnt when i took it out.. TheNOBBLER[RL] Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 (edited) We use it by the sheet at work and throw out pieces about the right size for the job. Might have some 1mm stuff lying around thats not scratched... Edited July 27, 2006 by TheNOBBLER Quote
Teddy Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 yup perspec is glued onto face of plastic cluster backing frame. Its actually got a 27° lip which sits flush on the plastic, with small aligning pins (manufacturing, stability) ive studied these things for a while ;yo hahah Quote
