not sure about NSW regulations but I'm sure you guys would still have to go through engineers to get a certificate so its always a good thing to call them if you have any concerns about installing something that your unsure about, there is a fair bit you can get away with tho. I'm sure other people here that are from NSW can help you out more there.

As for your conversion it really depends how much you wanna spend, i assume that by saying you want as little custom fabricatiing, you don't want to spend too much. depending what you like, but you could do a 4AGZE or 4AGE conversion. i prefer the sr20 turbo motor. it would be good to even see a 1GGTE in there. what were you thinking of doing with it aswell? daily driver/street drag?

5K or 7K for poop mobile speeds

maybe 5k with charger, rolla boy can vouch for charged k motors in ke3x's

4agxx would be best, be it e, ze, or te

call your RTA and see what criteria you have to meet, or...the easier way is to find the NCOP (national code of practice) and read the whole thing. i know there are links to it on toymods

piss off the idea of a 1ggte straight away. its so f@$king tight in my ke70 it would be even worse in a 30

ive seen one with it done on a forum, but they never said how many hassles they had doing it

apparently it doesnt ruin the handling too much with some good tyres and suspension but just don't do it bro

ca or sr would be reasonable...but stick with the yotas :P 4ag

lol. i never said it was going to be easy. he never mentioned what he wanted to do so i just threw some ideas out there. 1GGTE would be a good idea if he had alot of time money and effort. thats usually not the case tho. :P

if you want you could go for a 3t covert. i was talking to a guy that sold ke20 toyota for a living!!! and he had 4 brand new ones and well to cut a long story short. he won rallys and bet the brains out of escorts. and all with 2t power!!!

ps. he has a ae82 with a silver top. and a parts shed that i'd kill for.

i'm going to buy a 3k big port off him ;)

you should see his cam coletion

truly this man is a rolla nut for the "gods"

thx for the insite. you narowd it down heaps

I'm going to get prices on monday next week

option 1 is one of the 4ag rang depending on $$$

if that fails ill see what we can do to a k5 or k7

ill keep my situation up dated lolz and thx again ;)

Id advise against a 4AG swap, unless you know exactly what youre doing or know someone who does...even then, expect it to be off the road for around 6 months, and make sure you have about 3 grand saved up to buy all the parts you need/transport/delivery/etc....trust me I'm pulling hair out about mine still, i started it in jan and its neally ready now, it was meant to take 2 weeks!!!!

theres quite a bit of grinding drilling and welding to do to slot it in....more than you might think.

I wish i went with a 5K....by now it would be about as powerful as the stock 4ag anyway!!

Seriously man, if this is your first conversion, go for a K motor, stay away from 7k....they are not a direct bolt in, and are about the same price as a 4ag.

you can swap to another k series in a day if you know what youre doing, then spend some time and money on that, get the rest of the car up to scratch and then think about swapping to something in the 4a series.

Have you thought about just sticking an sc12 on the 3k? or on a 4k?

  • 2 weeks later...

sorry man, i really, really, really disagree with a 5k being "worth it"

i put a 5k into a ke35 i had a year or so ago, and it sucked. 10% more powerfull than sweet f@$kall in complete honesty. you see people with decked out 5k's and they make bugger all power, and would never, ever be able to compete with a 4age, let alone a 4agze.

i gots the 4agze now and its good. i beat kids in s13's, s14's and s15's. i beat a kid in a rb25det cefiro and many many commodores. then i killed the motor. haha.

but yeah.

5k swap took a weekend. 4agze swap is not so easy.

still, i'd rather spend 6 months to put a DECENT motor in that you'll enjoy. trust me mate, you'll love it when your car is running.

yeh i can back up your claim caibs. my rolla project initially started off with putting a L20 from the bluebirds then i realised "this is gonna be wak" so i scrapped it, then thought about 4agze they were not that expensive, then i realised i wanted more power so i looked at SR20DET the only problem there was it was pricey but then i also thought, if i do it right the first time then it should be good to go. i was contemplating a ca18 and going for cheap thrills but i despise those motors, in my opinion they are the second worst motor that nissan made next to the CA20. so ive gone SR and havent turned back, yes there is more work physically and more messing around but if you have the time and the money its worth spending that little bit more to get something that whole lot better. I'm not saying go sr but if your relatively mechanical minded its always good to challenge yourself. although i do need to admit the most experience i had with cars before i got my sr was servicing my own cars, oil, pads, air filter, oil filter, spark plugs etc. and besides that it was only what i read and researched about. and i also have a mate thats heaps handy with shit in this area.

in the end it comes down to what you personally want to do. sorry about long post. hope its useful.
