HEKTIC Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 (edited) Hey hows it going, After talking to my APD teacher at school today whos is also a boiler maker welder he told me that it would be a "piece of piss" to make an EFI manifold for a 4k-c corolla. He informed me the that it is also a "piece of piss" to weld cast alloy despite some peoples opinions. What would i need to make an efi manifold? a Throttle body? what else. Could i find an efi manifold from a similar engine (similar capacity) and adapt it (grapht) to suit a 4k? P.S he also told me the story of the corolla he used to have, but he had to get rid of it because he had to many problems with the garbage man trying to pick his car up ;) Edited September 7, 2006 by HEKTIC
Raven Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 4K-E was an EFI version of the 4K-C. Research it ;)
HEKTIC Posted September 6, 2006 Author Report Posted September 6, 2006 yea but i thought that efi manifolds for the 4k were hard to find
Raven Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 I've seen a few pop up for sale lately. best bet is if you really wanted one, would be to find one in new zealand.
HEKTIC Posted September 6, 2006 Author Report Posted September 6, 2006 but what are they going to go for $200-$300. Why bother when i could get one made for $150?
irokin Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 but what are they going to go for $200-$300. Why bother when i could get one made for $150? Sure you could make one...but what about injectors, fuel rail, throttle position sensor. Most of the ones I see come with that as a minimum. Probably looking at $50 for a cheap possibly dodgy injectors, few dollars for the TPS and probably a fair bit for a custom rail. I'm not saying don't do it, just beware of the hidden extras.
HEKTIC Posted September 6, 2006 Author Report Posted September 6, 2006 yes i was just looking at how hard it would be to make the manifold. and I'm assuming it would be easy for a boiler maker welder to make a custom fuel rail?
irokin Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 http://users.ilnk.com/teamsupra/IMAGE07dffrnt.jpg http://www.slantsix.org/articles/bryan_long-fi/fuel-rail.jpg http://nissanperformancemag.com/may02/images/fuel-rail.jpg you tell me? Alternatively you could try and space your runners so that you could use a standard rail off another car... but its gonna have to be pretty spot on or it will leak around the injectors.
Medicine_Man Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 I have a 4K-E (Efi) setup, If you want one they are probably easier to find in New Zealand (Where I imported mine from). Why not grab these off ebay and use them.. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Alfa-Dellorto-40mm-...1QQcmdZViewItem http://www.jenvey.co.uk/Index.htm
HEKTIC Posted September 6, 2006 Author Report Posted September 6, 2006 nah id really like the tuneablity of efi and plus the fact that a low psi supercharger or turbo setup would be easily done with efi. I will show him the fuel rail but no doubt ill get the "yea i can make one of them, they are a piece of piss to make". can i just basically get a bit of metal thats long and has hollow and drill wholes where i need the injectors and weld it up or what?
HEKTIC Posted September 6, 2006 Author Report Posted September 6, 2006 am i going to have to go to and aftermarket ecu straight away? (i assumed that i will because it will now have electronic egnition) and i wasnt planning on just slapping it together, i was going to take the time to work everything out. My teacher is a boiler make with alot of experience (ie as it stands he works for people in his spare time and doesnt do any jobs that pay less than $80 an hour) he is rather sort after by people who want things done right and from the way he was talking today he had done 1 or 2 of these before (not for a 4k)
HEKTIC Posted September 6, 2006 Author Report Posted September 6, 2006 well give me some ideas. ie what kind of engine would i get a suitible throttle body off? What size injectors will i need? What kind of ECU will i need? what kind of AFM do i need? and I'm not saying that it will happen over night I'm just trying to work out whether its going to be a worthwile thing to do, because i would like to efi a little 4k and see how it goes, and btw keep the constructive critism comeing because that way for everything you say wont work meens i will have to find a way to fix it, Thank you, John

HEKTIC Posted September 6, 2006 Author Report Posted September 6, 2006 (edited) don't meen to sound like a tool but wats a MAP? (reaches for and puts on flameproof suit) Edited September 6, 2006 by HEKTIC
irokin Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 manifold absolute pressure AFM is air flow meter both ways of figuring out how much air is going into your engine.
