Hey guys, I'm just wondering if theres any easy way to get the dash pad out of an AE71, i did it in my T-18 once but it required pulling the whole dash out to get to the bolts up the back Any suggestions would be appreciated, just pulling it out to mount an oil pressure light to it for racing Phill

Looken good I was just wondering what you did to make the RWD engine mount & the 20v alternator bracket work together? Phill -
Ive got no idea how to tell but i can offer photos (although slightly blurry) of the 8.0:1 CR factory GZE pistons that came out of my MR2 http://gb.detonated.org/gallery/engine-rebuild/DCP_3523 http://gb.detonated.org/gallery/engine-rebuild/DCP_3526 http://gb.detonated.org/gallery/engine-rebuild/DCP_3527 the 8.9:1's have flat tops, the lower compression ones have a dish

Looks nice ollie  Any pics of that front bar from any other angles?

hey if it works it works :P T-18s came with 3.9's and 3.7's with 4.1's directly swapping in from TA22's, i just installed a locked 4.1 TA22 center in my T-18 diff the other day. Everyone loves the T series as 4.1's are easy to find, as are LSD's from japan. If its any conselation someone will probably wanna pay you 100-200$ for the T-18 dif if its any good :P If your really keen some KE70 wagons came with 4.3 borgwarners but youd have to weld on the spring mounts etc
-
You put a BW diff in ya T-18 ???????

I never crashed mine, i bought it for $50, did a home respray and drove it around for over 2 years, rust took its hold and rather than fixing it i took it off the road and used it for a paddock bomb In the end almost everything on it was stuffed, i broke a strut top, bent a strut etc, its just being used as a parts car now :D That said it was still running fine when i pulled the motor out :P T-18's ROCK!
-
Tis a dead set ringer of my first car! i loved mine :y: Lets hope you look after urs better than i did mine :P
-
hehehe, everyone asks me that... i dunno it never really bothered me, I'm used to it really. Was alot of guess work you just have to assume where the flags are, either that or keep your foot off the loud pedal so you don't make so much dust!! if you watch closely one or 2 times i stop because i can't see anything! it was on the one particular test. Colin: Peters still doing it, he was competing the day i was out there, as for the others, I'm not sure.

yeah that was TCCA grounds in weribee, i came second to brian in that beast of a KE20, he was 20 secs overall quicker than me! so he is now the benchmark of where i want to be at :y:
-
Yeah ive seen that rev it video, i love it! the last bit is nice where you hold the slide around the last 3 cones :y: I'm currently in the TCCA, but ill most likely be joining a second club so i can get points in the VCAS next year. ive only ever done those 2 motorkhanas, i plan to do more! i think ive cought the bug. I'm aiming to ATLEAST compete in all the VCAS rounds next year, if i can ill get to as many motorkhanas as i can, possibly atleast 1 sprint ;) The HAC interclub was great :P it was only 5 mins from me which is the main reason i went, I'm still trying to get hold of my own towcar so i don't have to chase up other peoples cars. I'm heading down to the wreckers to raid bits for a brake upgrade tomorow as I'm starting to toast the brakes even around the farm, once thats completed ill start the 20v conversion :P

Hey guys, Ive been lurking here and there for a while and found this thread i thought i might reply. My name is Phill and I'm located on a vege farm in heaterton. I'm slooowly building up an AE71 Autocross car and aiming to compete in the VCAS next year, in the mean time ive been going to a few random motorkhanas. The first i came 1st in novice, and 2nd in C class... and the second i did abysmally :) You can see videos here: The car it self is an AE71 i bought off rhys for $100, came with absolutly no running gear so ive built it up mostly out of bits i had laying around the shed. its currently running a 2TG, T-18 gearbox and diff (which i welded last weekend :P ). The 2TG is smokey and a bit rattley at times but i managed to pick up a 20v for a bargain price, so I'm in the process off collecting parts for the 20v conversion now. Here be some pictures: Ive also got an Aw11 GZE and a 3TC powered KE15 which will be for sale when ever i get around to it :) Phill

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone had replaced the green tinged screen on their AE71/KE70 instrument clusters? coming from a T-18 the green tinge really shits me off Its flat and only glued on, looks like itll be simple to replace, anyone done this, any pics? Phill

I'm using the bottom one in the picture in my AE71 with no probs. They come from sprinters. My ae71 has had alot of thrashing with no troubles to speak of Not sure what the top one is from, but if it fits use it :lolcry: But the sprinter one mounts just as easy. I know for a fact that T-18 ones do NOT fit ae71 sedans, some people say they do though :hammer: Both the T-18 ones i have don't fit...

Thanks, I'm from vic :P btw everyone, some hot cars there, but i have to say the ke70 a few posts up is my favourite :) i plan to use mine for autocross mostly till i can afford to rally :D

Name: Phill Car: AE71 CSX Motor & Driveline: 2TG i had laying around the shed, jaycar HEI box and custom homemade crap exhaust, 1983 T-18 box, Custom single piece tailshaft, T-18 diff soon to be locked Suspension & Brakes: Just bought new munroe gas shockers all round as old shocks were rooted, soon to have King lows springs possibly. MA61 brakes waiting to go in when i can find good cheap 14"'s to go over em, i might end up with torago rims Wheels & Tyres: Some random tires that where on it when i got it, on stocker ae86 alloys Interior: A dash, seats, some carpet... Body: Poo brown, mostly straight Other: Intended to be the most amount of fun for the least amount of $$$, will be used for track car in club events such as sprints, hillclimbs, motorkhanas and my favourite, autocross :P Was originally going to run a 4AC w/ suck through turbo setup but the 4AC i had in the shed turned out to have a blown headgasket so i couldnt be stuffed fixing it. Ended up just throwing in the 2TG i had laying around. Images of the whole build can be found here: http://gb.detonated.org/gallery/TE71 and a couple of videos: http://gb.detonated.org/TE71.avi <-- its first run i had some major ignition/carb problems http://gb.detonated.org/cammount.avi <-- testing my camera mount, its running slightly better in this vid I'm yet to get some video of it running right, but its mega fun :) A photo of the whole family, AE71, MR2, 2xT-18s and a KE15 hiding up the back :D How the engine bay looks now, rocker cover is leaking and wiring needs to be neatened up, should get that sorted this weekend

Just an idea for anyone else reading this thread. I wonder if u could use some sort of digital pulse adjuster from jaycar to keep the stock tacho electronics, use a new 10000 rpm face, then adjust it to work... just an idea ;)

Hey Jason, the T-18 dash u speak of... is it in a T-18 or have you converted it into your AE71? Id love to use the T-18 cluster i have in my ae71 as the ae71 one sucks
