  1. Stumbled accross more pics of the abandoned Toyota dealership in Varosha (as featured on pages 19 & 20) Sadly these cars are likely to remain unseen and unavailable indefinately, and would probably just be destroyed anyway if the town is ever inhabited again. dang... double dang... A whole dealership with odometres like this...
  2. Looking beautiful Tally, those wheels really set it off! Very nice work
  3. In an ideal world that would be awesome beyond belief!!! I'm not sure exactly what motor is going in at this stage... Today the work started... Whoever did this engine bay should be shot...gloss white and messy

Well the axles are still in there...I've been interstate for work lots and haven't had time to look at it... Tried the wheel as a slide hammer with no joy, also put the wheels back on and rocked the car left and right which may have dislodged one of them a bit... Tomorrow will hopefully get the gas torch out for some heat and try again... Also have another idea which may work... Got some bits posted over from lowboost (Thanks again Roy) during the week, best of which are these overrated but dirty rear mudflaps. Will clean up sweet and the lettering will be done in black...don't like the white and some chrome trims which have cleaned up pretty well A mate picked up these front mudflaps at a swap meet for cheap - they're generic ones but should look pretty good
  5. Yeah the injection and air-con would be awesome! I love this but the same friend also has a clean original MS56 sedan which has my name on it...I prefer the 56 sedan or would love a round tail-light ute or wagon. There are 4 early wagons I recently saw at a wrecker... Work has already begun and more pics will follow soon
  6. This was recently added to our backyard as a bit of a "team project" for a friend who has several Crowns. His wife would probably divorce him if he brought another one home, so my housemate and I have offered to store it here and help do the bodywork/paint until he can sell something and make some space. It's a 1970 model RS56 which originally had the cast iron pushrod 4 cylinder also found in coaster buses! Basic plans are to make this his daily driver, with a 6 cylinder conversion with celica 5 speed, matt black and plenty of Crown chrome with a bit of bling. There are also some custom ideas which may or may not eventuate, but the idea is to create something a bit old-school, and it won't be a show car by any means. Shell is pretty good and has been semi-prepped by someone else quite some time ago, and we have better doors panels to fit. For those unfamiliar with this model, here is what they look like. Beautiful body lines...
  7. Went out to "that wrecker" today (as featured by Tally on page 14) and found a few not previously shown... Crappy phone pics - didn't have a camera KE10 paddock basher...win Beat up 36 pano Stout body with no rear section Then just as we were leaving, spotted a complete Toyota 700! Didn't get a real good look but will be going another day soon. Random shots The RT40 in this pic is an SE and it has a good set of hubcaps and trims on it
  8. For people who like this page, you should really check this out... Unbelievable abandoned thread of mostly Euro stuff, but some incredible photos and very rare cars. Lots of repeated photos for some reason but still amazing. WARNING - this page is MASSIVE and takes quite a while to load... http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=print&thread=20301
  9. Was looking for pics of 36 and 38 wagons and found these... :lolcry:
  10. This show continues to make me cringe... Entertainment factor is almost non-existant, and whilst not as bad as last year the presenters are uninteresting and appear to have little actual knowledge of cars between them. What a waste of time and money - all that effort to produce what could have been an awesomely entertaining segment....instead it was a flop. Clarkson, May and Hammond are entertaining to watch and genuinely funny guys...although sometimes lacking in real insight and mechanical understanding. Australian Top gear still lacks the insight and knowledge...badly...but what makes it worse is the boredom factor and the fact these guys just aren't that funny. Fail.

Spent today cleaning more and trying to get the axles out to change the bearings - the drivers side is definately rooted and I'm 99% sure it's the cause of the rear noise. 225k's and I don't think either have been out. Took the car for a good half hour drive to warm everything up, put it straight up on stands and gave both sides a go with no success. :bash: How many blokes does it take to remove a KE** axle? Apparently more than 3, or perhaps one with the necessary tools... A longer chain and biger hammer would have helped  I've been down this road before and it aint fun....

Thanks guys, got quite a bit done this weekend which was good. Going to continue cleaning it up while I save for new shocks, front end rebuild, lowering and whatever is wrong with the diff/rear. And keeping an eye out for a K50 with the shifter in the original position. Oh and the under-dash parcel shelf visible in above photos - a home made gem done quite well by a previous owner. It even has a laminated edging on the front to match the interior colour, and goes all the way to the firewall!! :laff: Somewhat undecided on full chrome bumpers and round headlights/grille at the moment :hmm: , opinions welcomed...
  13. Nice...I'm doing the same but hopefully with no flipping of leaves if I don't have to, and probably using air-shocks to assist with occasional towing. Is there room with the u bolts to put another 1/2" block in there? I was thinking of ordering 1 1/2" + extra 1/2" blocks to have the option - the u bolts are usually too long anyway and can be cut easily.

    Spotted

Spotted old dude on Grand Junction rd in an orange early KE20 with the blackout between the tail lights, looked very neat and original
  15. Awwwww yeah... sits nicely! Blocks?
  16. It was the latter, thanks heaps! Two security bolts with heads that snap off when tightened, got some needle nose pliers and gently unthreaded them. Looks like they were factory though... I'll cut some svrewdriver heads into them and put 'em back in! Thanks again, problem solved
  17. Hi guys, Having some issues with my steering column on the 38 - I noticed it was wobbling a bit and found the cause, but can't work out the solution. You can see the gap which is creating the wobble. You can also see the exposed thread of what looks like a bolt, there is one on each side. The end of both the bolts look like this. Have the ends snapped off or is this how they are? There is heapes of movement but I can't work out how to actually seperate these two pieces or tighten them up... Anyway my question is can this section be taken off the steering column and replaced, or do I need to get a whole new column? Any help greatly appreciated at this stage - I'm stumped... :hmm:
  18. Just imagine if this was your pride and joy...motivation enough I say. These were the first two cars to be crushed in SA this week. 93 offences between them :fuzz: :lolcry: From Adelaide now:

Haha I've done something similar, but the problem is the lock is so worn you can open it with a 5c piece. As it turns out my locksmith can't rebuild it, so he's ordered me what is apparently the last NOS front door lock for one of these in the country! It's costing $70 + $30 to key it to the original key, but worth it I guess. Been busy today pulling interior out for a clean and fish oil. Started by taking out all the seats and door cards, and all the boot trims. Found a crap load of dirt in the bottom of both front guards, so out that came the easy way...compressor and tap-a-tapa Product placement... To counteract the only bad thing about fish oil...one in each door and rear quarter. Had to make a new base for the seat as it was saggy... After a good vacuum and wipe down and door cards reinstalled. And $10 floor mats thanks to SCA

Cheers Nickyboy, wana swap? Haha this is ok but your 26 is a real gem!
  21. Go to Just Wrecking Toyota's at Wingfield - last time I checked they were able to quote on low km short & long 5K's and 7K's. From memory a long 7K (carby) was going to set me back about $700 or $800. I've bought a low km import motor from there before and they were good to deal with.

:lolcry: Haha for those who were wondering, the car reflected in the first photo of my last post is my much hated Suzuki SX4 sedan company car. It looks like a stretch which is funny as - these things are a wierd (read...ugly as f*%k) shape and size anyway... I've done nearly 50k kms in it (mixed city and country driving as reps car) and hated every moment of it - has the worst auto transmission ever designed in the history of motoring (advertised as a 4 speed auto, but has double clutching on both 3rd and 4th which is indecisive and annoying and it has no cruise control) and is utterly horrible to actually drive and look at apart from being smooth, quiet and free. I'm not going to bother saying "don't get one", as no sound minded rolla driver would even contemplate it to begin with! I hope... :no2:

So a nice coincidence that it ended up in your posession then! I'll let you know about the diff once I confirm what the problem is. Cheers. All trims and seats out this wkend for a full detail and fish oil. Lots of fish oil... And need to get the driver side door lock fixed - can open it with anything. And both front seats are wobbly. More pics before the cleanup starts. Mmmmmmmmmmm..... Worst of the rust

Haha for sure - his last effort was spectacular! Well car is home now after a wet drive home, looking forward to having a better look tomorrow when there is daylight. Discovered a few more issues on the way home as one does, but also found some more pleasant surprises. It's a 10/1980, same year as me which is cool. More to come soon. I'm at least 5% happier overall as a result of being back in a rolla.

I nearly bought yours when it was at Gawler motor wreckers early last year haha - they wanted $850 and I said no - I remember it had moss growing out of the front guards!!! My hat goes off to you for saving it Ryan - this isn't nearly as ambitious a project as yours! You didn't end up witha spare diff by any chance?
