Test fitted the wheels today, Tasman (Australian made) 14 x 6 with 205's at the moment, but will have to go smaller for lowering This is a semi-restored set, he has a fetish for these wheels so a better set may be used eventually

Ok so a couple nights this week were spent trying to salvage a very bent tail-gate - they are understandably quite rare. I don't have any pics of when we first started on it, but the inside was really badly dented and it had actually bowed the whole panel towards the back of the car. After much debate on how to straighten this, we settled on using the engine crane to pull sections out by drilling holes and mounting a steel plate underneath the panel. Holes can be filled easily... Remembering that we are not going for a show-quality finish by any means, this ended up working extremely well! The setup in action It was significantly worse than this when we started It took 7 holes drilled, a lot of tapping with panel hammers and probably 20 pulls with the crane from different ares... But evenutally, the gap was getting smaller and the panel was lining up ok And as it now sits with all panels hung, some alignment still needed Just the outside of the tailgate and some minor prep to go and she's ready for paint

Yes it's Ian and I heard the story - hope you got her home OK after the swap meet? Was it carby blockage? We're currently working on a tailgate for the ute, the inside of it was pretty bent to begin with...but some inspired backyard engineering has been taking place today and last night...pics soon

Awesome! More *E3* PVs and wagons ftw! Saw this for sale some time ago, glad someone on here picked it up!

Is that at Collingrove Philbey? If so I've seen that one there and a few others at times too. It may be a stretch of the truth, but I've been told some of these K-engined open-wheelers were getting into the 10 second bracket thanks to being lighter than a corolla.... I still can't get over the 9500RPM bit - just imagine the orgasmic nature of that sound... :hmm:

Can't help with the idling problem (other than to check all the emissions gear is plugged in correctly and timing/points etc are set properly). The spluttering sounds like it could be the accelerator pump - I've had this problem before and a new one has always fixed it. Easy to change once you have the top of the carb off, carb removal not necessary. They come with carb rebuild kits, or if you're lucky someone might sell you just the pump. Forgot to add you can check the operation of the fuel pump by checking for a squirt of fuel when you initially open the throttle with a fast action (ie like what happens when you mash you foot into the go pedal). It should be easily visible if working. Old plungers were leather and the newer ones are soft rubber/plastic from what i gather, but I could be wrong and I'm not sure which one is preferrable performance or longevity wise (I always liked the leather ones better myself).

Anyone seen the new Stronbow ad on TV? There is a mustard coloured wagon (in the scene before the people carrying a couch appear) which I think may be a KE26 - can anyone confirm this? There is only a fleeting shot of the rear left corner of the car...

As South Australian's it is difficult for us to comprehend the magnitude of this disaster given our low rainfall, but can I just say that my thoughts (and those of many others here) are with all Queenslanders during this difficult time. Stay safe and look after each other. Best Wishes, Tom

Agree completely with Philbey - you can't beat North-Eastern suburbs, and hte further from the city you get the cheaper rents are (as a rule of thumb). I live in Tranmere and, being surrounded by retired Italian and Greek folk, we have little to no noise / crime / burnouts / problems with anything at all really. City is close, hills are close (but not too close to be a risk in bushfires), beach is close (but not too close to get flooded by tsunami's should we ever have one).

Hi Guys, My housemate Karl finally has all the equipment and paint to start his new Whitewall business. Karl will come to you, and prices start from $80 for 4 x standard single whitewalls like below. Price depends on whitewall thickness (doubles slightly more) and distance to travel. Based in Eastern Suburbs. He is using the same methods, equipment and paint as Derryl from Whitewalls SA, and is doing brilliant work. Available colours are: WHITE, RED, BLUE, YELLOW, GREEN. Custom colours can be mixed but take more time and patience. Here are some pics and brief explanations of the process and the results. More pics will be added as more cars are done, with owners permission of course. First step is to clean the tyre with a special solution: Second step is to blacken the tyre. Two options here - full gloss "wet look" or a dry look which is water based. Next step is to rough up the area to be painted so the paint will stick. The machine rotates the tyre throughout all the next steps. Then two layers of different paint are applied, with a quick blow dry in between coats Finally, a layer of protective laquer is applied to mainatin the whiteness and prevent marks appearing through cleaning and general use. And the results on my car: This is the wet look tyre black Please call Karl on the above number to make appointments or to find out more. Cheers, Tom

OK so my housemate finally got his new equipment for his Whitewall business (Custom Whitewalls), and this is the result. For those in the know, he is using the same processes, equipment and paint as Derryl from Whitewalls SA. I'll be posting some business details, pricing and more detailed pics of the process in the SA section soon for SA members, so keep an eye out for that if you're looking for a set in SA. Car is dirty as hell but you get the idea. And yes I know, it needs more low... I like it

Absolutely - I was actually quite surprised at the difference as I've never done this before despite having owned many KE Rolla's... Can't complain about the price!

Thanks mate, gotta love a backyard full of projects...at least only one of them is mine so I can't be blamed for the mess! Yeah Barry & Barry are out back hanging doors and bonnet today, and doing some more prep work on the body.

Haha thats because I copied it from Evan G and probably many other people. But seeing as you've seen it Benny...I'll share. Sandblasted and chopped factory airbox for the ultimate in backyard induction modifications

Hi guys this may have been posted before, but try this once you find the paint code of your car. Might take a while but the colours will both be there. Toyota Colour Codes and Names http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/colour_codes_toyota_A-G.htm Cheers,

Wow I've been lazy with this...having a company car doesn't help! Also been flat out busy, broke, same old story... I've only driven it twice really since I bought it... Did manage to sandblast my rims at home and repaint them. Added some chrome trims and polished the centre caps and nuts. Found a matching (short stalk) passenger mirror at u-pull-it which was rad, except the stalk had been painted and the chrome was gone. I ended up doing both stalks in the same paint as the wheels, looks ok-ish... Also started polishing the car which is a bit of a lost cause with the metallic, but oh well... Put my steering wheel on, but don't really like it on this car. Something more period is needed dusty from sitting

Not sure if this link has been put up before or not, but I've found it to be very accurate in the past... UPULLIT Stock Listings for Northern and Southern Yards http://www.upullit.com.au/results_page.asp

Twin whites look awesome, dunno about the colours. Great score btw! I'd like to see twin reds for a full comparison, or I also had the idea recently of a fat white wall with a thinner red wall inside, but offfset closer to the outside...or centre, whichever looks better...

Been quite some time since an update, and ideas change over time.... :lolcry: Project is becoming more "RAT" the further we go, but the owner is loving it and is providing most of the inspiration for the build. We're all having fun drinking beer and discussing ideas for the car... The owner has also aquired an MS56 ute with the earlier front off eBay, it's a 6 cylinder with the crazy 3 speed + overdrive gearbox (those who know these things know these boxes are a quirky but cool feature of the early Crowns). Funny thing is it went to a farm and has never been registered - more on this later. Anyway the RS56 is now sporting a stonking 18r motor and 4 speed floor shift box, which is looking the goods as you will see haha. The conversion had been carried out at an earlier stage, and it was the easiet way to get it running and registered as the everything was there - 6 cylinder conversion involves a bit more work and the original 5R he has is in unknown condition.. So, before Xmas the work started in earnest. Shell had been prepped quite well and was very straight, but needed a little filler here and there. Rear section now pretty much done. Engine bay was finally saved from the horrible white enamel of death... A collection of mouse shit and foam which was scraped out of the hoodlining... This is the multi-purpose paint which will be used on...everything!!! Inside of bonnet A few weeks later, things got wierd...the might 18R became the victim of a suprt of inspiration fueled by beer and maybe some other things...and was painted in hammertone gold paint  See what I mean about this thing becoming a bit "RAT"... Set of extractors were purchased, but they don't clear the steering arms so will be installed after rego... Interior has also been done...black And today, we've been busy doing the inside's of the two doors and the tub And just for fun the Tasman steering wheel which will be matched by a full set of Tasman wheels for the ultimate cool factor.

Yeah wagon is still there Ryan, wasn't much on it though...what do you need? Worth the trip though - there were 4 or 5 3x and 5x rolla's there last week. Cheers, Tom

Yesterday at UPI Elizabeth: 6 or 7 KE70 slanty and flat fronts, 1 wagon. Plenty of complete 4K's! 2 x KE30 2 x KE55, 1 hardtop auto 1 x KE38 One of the KE30's had an awesome centre console in it and there were plenty of good interior bits there

Hi Jake, The ID check is essentially just to make sure all the numbers match and nothing is stolen - most commonly done after purchasing a car from interstate. It wasn't/isn't defected is it? If you're driving the car there then it should at least look & sound roadworthy or they may start to ask questions - you have to drive it in their shed and then sit "over there" while they do the inspection. If it's on a trailer you're probably pretty safe so long as there aren't any obvious modifications and the car wasn't defected before it ran out of rego. Cheers, tom

Yeah I was thinking that at first, but reckon I'll leave them black for now and think about it later Another thing to keep an eye out for at the wreckers haha...I need a list... This is one of the vans which was kind enough to donate a set, hence the green paint in first pics...Go the smokey old 18R :laff: After first clean and condition...

Was at a mates block yesterday in the riverland of SA. As I was walking around his two old 70's Hiace's and marvelling at these slowly decaying wonders of mechanical indesctructability, I noticed these hanging off the back. Upon witnessing my excitement and bewilderment at what I had found, he insisted I take them with me as the total price paid for both Hiaces was less than $100. Two are overrated and will clean up brand new, other two can be modified for use. Has anyone ever seen these before? Another mate (Toyota guru) thinks that these may have been off import Hiaces only - can anyone confirm this? I'd really like to find another set as these will probably end up on my '38. I know they're only mudflaps, something which the majority of rollaclubbers probably don't care about, but I was excited!

Unfortunately I don't think bribery would get you anywhere in this case. Plus, if the people are ever allowed to return to their homes one would imagine they might want the old Toyota's - some were probably sold but never delivered... Anyway more fun... Bahahahaha Love this one Only in america would you find something like this...
