  1. Just a heads up for anyone else, I did the old' - not plug the dash dimmer nob plug in after pulling my dash apart. fixed that pretty easy.
  2. It"S FIXED!!!!!!!, you would not believe what the problem was, I was trying to hard. I was looking at that spring thing thinking it was like a return spring (which it probably is) so I was focusing so much on that I didnt even notice the butterfly linkage thing had become mis-aligned and the split pin was half holding it on, about 5 seconds with a set of pliers and it was fixed Thanks fellas
  3. awesome, thanks very much!!, that second one seems to show the spring I'm interested in. I'll see how I go.
  4. does some one have a picture or is willing to take a picture of how this is on their manual 4ac. The spring that sits behind one of the mechanisms in the photo is pretty loose so I'm not sure whether it has been taken off before and maybe not put back on properly. Or if anyone lives on the southcoast of nsw and wants to give me a hand getting the 4ac idling I can provide $$
  5. Hi all, Just did a transplant and put a 4ac into my 70. It runs great only problem is it's idling way too high. It starts up nicely and then slowly the revs get higher and higher, when you step on the throttle it will raise the revs and then they will not return the revs just keep getting higher. BTW I don't know anything about carby's. Also another interesting thing is that I converted the 4ac from auto to manual and so it had like an auto choke linkage, when I move the auto choke mechanism thing it seems to make a diffeence in how the throttle butterfly thing opens and closes, when I don't touch it the buttlerfly doesnt fully return and the butterfly stays open a bit, when I put a bit of tension on it the butterfly fully closes - I think this could be at least one of the problems, I assume with carby's when there at idle the butterfly should be fully closed. Has anyone else used a auto to manual 4ac and had same problems? or any suggestions? Thanks
  6. lol that's nothing, wish I would of taken pictures of my 4age smallport, when we took the head off the passages were pretty much completely blocked and we were there for a whole day with all sorts of electric tools cleaning them out, screw driver didn't even make a dent. Engine ran great after haha. but yah it's defiantly a possibility, if you have a spare head gasket and torque wrench might as well pull the head off and have a look, at leas then you can rule that out.
  7. Literally just finished this the other day, I can tell you bout anything you need to know 3 speed gearbox I'm assuming it's an Auto Parts needed 4ac engine from your ae71 with with all rwd mounts and manual starter motor T-50 gearbox with its crossmember (an ae71 t50 crossmember fits fine) Engine Crossmember Pedal bx Clutch master Clutch slave Hard clutch line Manual speedo cable Wiring Loom (theres not actually much there just a bunch of wires coming of the positive battery terminal) Voltage Regulator to go on passenger side strut tower near coil Exhaust from AE71, at least front half cos the exhaust is on the other side of the car. Manual gearshift metal shroud - to secure the rubber boot from moving What you will need to modify to turn stuff into manual goodness. 1. Cut a bigger gear shift hole (a dremelll works awesome $90 from bunnings or you can get a cheap ozito) 2. Get a bit of alloy and make cover for you shifer hole area cos the auto hole is too long down the car. 3. Drill the hole in the firewall for a clutch master 4. Make a jumper cable for your auto shifter start in park circuit, and put between two black wires. 5. Wire the reverse lights - just move the wire over from your other car. 6. Move the coil over to the other side of the car, drill into right strut tower. 7. Hook your manual speedo cable up (do this while your dash is apart with the pedal box install). 8. Ground your motor in a bunch of different places. 9. Drill the metal shroud around the gear shifter to hold the shifter and rubber boot in place. Wiring Probably easiest to transfer the whole loom over from the manual car, way easier and just plug and play theres a great guide to cutting the bigger gear shift hole here on the rollaclub, ke70 auto to manual guid I think it's in the technical section.
  8. fair enough, cheers for the info. might just get a whole new exhaust from the headers back, can't really afford it but oh well.
  9. Hi all, Simple question I have put an exhaust on my car that has come from a wreckers car. The condition of the exhaust system start descent near the headers and gets pretty rusty looking from there to about half way down the car where it connects to the existing exhaust from the car which is descent condition. The rusty looking bit only has minor holes that you wouldn't realy notice to look at. the car looks like a piece of shit visually but A1 mechanically other than the exhaust. How picky are places that do blueslips and pink slips? Thanks
  10. yep that awesome, thanks very much. I understand now its the difference between aircon and no aircon. theres a vtv valve thing on the passenger strut tower and I think it has something to do with aircon, the aircon has a t-piece coming off one of the vac lines, but doesnt on most 4ac's (i guess cos most don't have aircon). my car doesnt have aircon so all good, the car I got this engine from must of had it. oh and that second pic "vac line from this where does it go" I figured that out, was actually realy simple, theres a tiny inconspicuous tube coming off the front of the air cleaner assembly, theres a vac line connecting the two. thanks fellas
  11. ok thanks fellas, I already saw that diagram, for some reason I think the 4ac's differ slightly, I know the ae86 ones and the ae71's are very slightly different, and I have noticed one vac line that splits a few different places on mine that doesnt on every other one I see on the net so I'm thinking maybe auto engines are very slightly different, cos mine was from an auto. unfortunatly the diagram doesnt help. anyways it'll run I guess so I'm pretty happy.
  12. hi all, doing the final touches for getting my 4ac going but I am lost as to where some of the vac lines go. hopfully this isnt too confusing, any help from someone with a 4ac willing to take pictures would really help. thanks
  13. all sorted, was way over thinking it and whenever I plugged into the plug coming off + batt terminal, It was a dodgy connection. cheers guys
  14. got the shifter wiring sorted, I actually can't figure out how the auto was previously hooked up for starting, it now has a manual starter, and because the receiving side of the black connector on the back of the firewall didnt even use the middle connector I just don't even know how it was hooked up, I can wire the middle conector up because the wire is there on the car harness side, but I don't know about the black and white connector near the battery.
  15. hi all, this should be simple hopefully. going from ae71 auto to manual I have all the wiring sorted except the starter. on the back of the firewall the black connector with about 6 wires, I thought that bottom centre was the starter wire, do I just route that to my starter because I used a multimeter and it still has continuity even when I don't turn the key. Then on the other side of the engine bay near the battery there is a black and white wire, when I do continuity between that one and the one on the black connector continuity is perfect (key to start), but I don't understand what I have to wire to the starter. And how many terminals are there actually on the starter do I just put 1 positive as a solenoid trigger and the other positive from the battery. because I can see that the negative of the solenoid is bridged to the starter but don't understand how it works. pretty confused, any help would be great. thanks
