  1. Thanks for the info, I'll look into those Holley kits for sure. I've also thought a lot about a 4age swap. Not a ton of power, but plenty for that little car.
  2. I recently bought a 79 TE38 with the 2tc. I really want to boost it, but I don't want to deal with a blow through setup, so I'm looking into an EFI swap. I'm just wondering how that's usually set up. Would it be worth it to find a 3tc block and build it out and swap it in? I don't have any time constraints, and I'm willing to take the time to save money and do it right. Any advice from someone that's tackled this swap before would be terrific, thanks. -Goose
  3. It's gonna need some fender flares to keep the front tires from rubbing, so if anyone has any suggestions on what to go with for that would be spectacular.
  4. I'm looking to put a new diff in my 79 KE30. I'm thinking about an 81 diff, (someone's got one and it's cheap). Would it even fit lengthwise, I know I'd need to weld on the leaf spring mounts and maybe modify my driveshaft, but otherwise would it fit in my car? I can do the mounts and such, I just want to make sure I won't have to do any major shortening of the axle. Any insight is greatly appreciated! -Goose
  5. Yeah. I'll likely get the block decked so as to not shave too much off the head, but I'll be doing that. I'm also having the cylinders honed and crankshaft balanced. I'll ask the shop about measurements. I'm using this car as a learning experience for myself as it's an incredibly simple engine so I hope I do well. Thanks again everyone for being so helpful.
  6. That may be the route I end up going. I've already got my block and head at a machine shop, I'll ask them to order some parts while it's there. Thanks for all the help.
  7. I appreciate the advice, but I've already got the engine apart. I fired it up one day and it sounded like a diesel so I tore it open to see what was wrong. Turns out I had cracked a piston and totally smoked the cam, so I'm getting a set of new pistons and rings, and I figured might as well get some new bearings and seals while I'm in there. Also leaning towards a little more compression and a bigger cam, but stock size intenals. At first glance I thought that the parts on the Precision site were factory spec, but I see I have more research and measuring to do.
  8. Ah, I see now, thank you. I was under the impression I ordered factory spec parts. Guess I need to do a bit more research. And no, I'm not getting any other help, just trying to figure out what I can.
  9. I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I'm trying to buy parts from precision, and I'm having troubles getting everything together. The site seems confusing. I got a list and ordered the parts, but they emailed me saying that the sizes didn't match. You'll have to again pardon my lack of knowledge and helplessness, but can anyone help me figure out what this means?
  10. Would decking the block mean I need shortened pushrods?
  11. Awesome info guys, thank you much!
  12. Hi all, I'm working on a rebuild of my 3k-c with a few upgrades. I want to put a bigger cam in there, but with that I know that I will need to do a few other things including increased compression, stiffer valve springs, and a better flowing exhaust. As for valve springs I am open to any suggestions as to certain brands or companies to go with. The exhaust I can make myself. I have heard that you can get higher compression with a 3k-b head on the 3k-c block, but I do not know much about this. I like the idea of a new head because that means that I do not need to get mine machined, I am just not sure about the logistics. If I were to get a 3k-b head, would I use a 3k-b head gasket, or one for a 3k-c? Also, does anyone have a suggestion as to where I might get a gasket kit for the whole engine? I haven't been able to find many. Any rebuild advice in general would be nice. Sorry if these seem like silly questions, this is an unfamiliar engine to me, and I'm having troubles finding information and parts for it. I figure there are some pretty knowledgeable people on here and it would be greatly appreciated if some wisdom could be shared. Thanks in advance! Goose
  13. Thanks for all the helpful info, I think I may just be crazy enough to do it. When I do start piecing it together I might start a build thread, so be on the lookout. Thanks again! - Goose
  14. Great info, thanks everyone. Is there any way for me to swap the wheel hubs over on the diff to keep it 4 lug, or would I need to change the front ones and have 5 lug all around?
  15. Good to know about the suspension, mine is shot anyhow so I'll be replacing that. I'm still looking into what sort of rpm range the 20r can pull, not that it necessarily matters, but I would like it to be at least a little peppier than the 3k given all the work I'm going to do. I'm also curious as to if the 20r was different for trucks than it was for the Celicas, and what I should expect in that area. Also, being young and new to Toyotas, is the gearing in the rear end a relatively simple job, or is it something that would be better left alone?
  16. I heard a rattling from piston 1, then when I got home I pulled the head of to see cylinders 1 and 2 full of coolant. As for a 5k, I've not been able to locate one, but it is a great idea. I only thought of the 20r because they were in the Celicas and it might be a fun custom job. There's a lotta engine swapped Corollas, I've yet to see a 20r in one though. Also my diff is no longer useable, and the 20r comes with a trans and functioning diff.
  17. Hi all, I know I've been here before digging for info on a 22r in my KE30 and I was informed that it may not be the best engine conversion I can do. I eventually got the gar together with the stock 3k and it has been my daily since, but I digress. My little 3k started sounding like a diesel the other day, and I damn near cried. That said I have been looking into motor conversions again, and I have been offered an 81 rwd pickup with a running 20r, trans, and diff. What are your thoughts on this motor, and would it be right for my car. I know they to put them in the Celicas and Coronas, so that's what gave me the idea to stuff it's heart into my rolla. Thanks in advance for any advice/info! -Goose
  18. I'm in the states, so that might be a pretty penny for shipping.
  19. Might be looking for a new engine for the KE30 soon, if anyone has a functional or close to functional k series for sale let me know. Thanks, Goose Edit: I'm also considering a 4age swap, but I'm researching that further. So if anyone has parts that would help towards that I would be interested. I need to find out everything I would need for that conversion first though.
  20. It's time to adjust the valves on my 3K-C and I have no idea what I'm doing. I know how to do a valve job on a standard in-line four with two valves per cylinder, I just don't know if these engines have any oddities to them. I also do not know the clearance specs or any of that. If anyone could give me the rundown on how it's done or has any helpful information that could point me in the right direction to find what I'm looking for it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Goose.
  21. So the trans is out and I'm awaiting the arrival of the new one!
  22. I have a new clutch for my 79 ke-30 with a 3Kc engine, and I am having troubles finding the torque values for it. Also, when bolting it in, should I tighten in a circle, or tighten across in a sort of star pattern. Thanks.
  23. Awesome! Hopefully it will be back on the road again soon, thanks all for the help!
  24. Thanks for the info! Do you know what sort of gearstick location issues, like will I have to move it forwards or back?
