  1. Keep at it Bob, I am glad that the engine and box are going to good use.
  2. Thanks for the kind words Ben. It certainly feels good to have it all finished. There is a few more things that I want to do to try and get the levels of refinement up to a higher standard but it is certainly pretty good as a start point. It is funny that you mention the power, to start with it was grin factor every time you put the foot down but after the dyno and playing with the boost control it is just so smooth and linear now that it really doesn't feel that fast.
  3. Here are a couple of photos from the weekend.
  4. Ok been driving this around for a couple of weeks so put it back on the dyno this arvo to make sure the tune was still happy with a little more boost and the T28 instead of the T25G. The thing did 168kw on the old tune @ 12-13 psi. Today it did 189kw @15-16psi. We didn't bother playing with the ignition or any more boost as it kind of seems pointless given that I use the thing for track not drift. It had a big boost spike when it was coming onto boost at around 3500rpm which resulted in massive loss of traction even in 3rd. I had the back end step out a couple of times when giving it a boot full at around 80km/h which was not fun so I have toned that right down as well. Boost builds slower now to around 15psi by about 3750 and sits steadyish out to redline. Once I get the in gear boost and traction/launch control sorted I will probably throw in some ID750 injectors and wind up the boost to see how it goes but at the moment it is not bad fun for a 1600.
  5. Ok got some more time on the car over the long weekend. Radiator mounted properly with the thermo's fitted and wired in. Intercooler bolted back in and the piping done, just need to weld them up. Really all I need to do now is mount the fuel pumps/filter and relays and run the fuel line and it should be pretty much good to go. There will be a few more little jobs but nothing too serious. The new suspension turned up today. Two sets, one for mine and a second set for a mate, there is just under $4k sitting in those boxes. Will be interested to see how it goes but first impression is that it is well put together and presents well. They are 10 way adjustable with base adjust for ride height. Running 6/4.5kg split on the springs which is pretty much what I have at the moment. A nice touch is the ability to adjust the total length of the rear shock to ensure that you have full travel available. I have heard good things regarding the crew from Shockworks so thought that I would give them a try.
  6. :hammer: Probably should have mentioned that I had all this in an AE86 that I have put into storage for a while. It seemed like a waste letting it sit given the money that has gone into it all so I thought I should use it. ZE block, Ross racing pistons, linished ZE rods, ARP bolts, T28, Denso 590cc injectors and E85. With a T25g and 12 psi it made 168rwkw. It should go over 200 with the bigger turbo and some more boost.
  7. Righto has been a while since I have done an update. I dropped the 4K engine and box just before Christmas so that Bob could add it to his growing collection of bits for his KE project. The thing sat in the shed till last week when I got back into it. Ended up pulling the whole dash and vent system out so that I could run the wiring loom through the back of the fire wall. When I did the pedal box swap I also enlarged the hole from the old clutch cable to run the wiring for the injectors, TPS, MAP and thermo fans. I put the T28 on while I had the engine out as well at a turbo blanket and some new fitting for the inlet and outlet on the compressor. I still have a little more to do to tidy up the wiring loom before it is all mounts then I will just start working my way backwards through the car. I am going to leave the dash out until I know that all is running well. I have a set of Shockworks stuff coming soon I hope which should pretty much see it all sorted. Being slack that I am the next update will probably be when it is finished. Cheers Paul
  8. Sea let me know if you need a hand with the engineering. Neltech Engineering.
  9. For the NCOP the weight used is the tare weight of the vehicle. In the case of the T-18 this is 980kg according to the factory compliance data. This translates to 3920cc NA or 2695cc for forced induction. Hope this is of some assistance.
  10. Damien are these 4x114.3 or 4x110? I have a full set of 13" steelies with new tyres from my KE70
  11. New steering wheel is on, big decision is crash pad on or off.
  12. Righto got a little bit more done to this over the last couple of weeks. I managed to get hold of a little lip spoiler for the boot which I think helps break up the boxy bum on the thing a little and I ended up tracking down a seat for $80. I know that they old Autobarn Drift seats aren't great but they are ADR compliant and a much better option than the old one. They also have a pretty standard bolt spacing on the bottom so if I want to upgrade the seat down the track then I can just bolt it onto the modified rails. I also got the surge tank back today. Just because I have to be a little different I didn't want it in the boot and the under car ones that go next to the fuel tank never look quite right. So I had this made up to sit in the hollow in the floor under the rear passenger seat. The fittings line up with the existing fuel lines so I can use them for the return line to the tank. I just need to run the new 3/8" line from the 044 to the fuel rail.
  13. The old rims are on the ae86 the tyres are buggered though so no point running them at this stage. The 15's are a little bling though I guess
  14. Righto, managed to carve out a little bit of time to work on this today. The PWR intercooler from the 86 was not going to fit the 70 very well so I started looking around for a reasonably priced replacement. Picked up a bar and plate cooler on the cheap because they had the end tanks welded on incorrectly so they are offset rather than on the same side. This setup works better for me anyway. They were 3" ends though so bigger than I would have liked but I got there in the end. I have used the intercooler itself as a structural component to tie in the bonnet latch to keep it secure. I also did a quick cut and shut on the bracket for the grill. Everything goes back in nicely and is secure as ever. The plan will be to do the fuel system next and pull the running gear out of the 86 so that it is ready to go when I get the time. Cheers Paul
  15. Not much happening with this thing. I steam cleaned the carpets and seats which came up well. Also spent the weekend getting the paint up to a decent standard. I gt a little lazy and didn't flatten the paint as well as I probably should have before I started so there is still some orange peel on the doors and such but not biggy. Have been driving it every day to work and it is running well. Hoping to start the engine swap on the long weekend.
  16. The rule are not difficult if the modifications are done properly. The cost is related to having to test and prove things are safe and fit for purpose. A tummy rub and sheel be right mate don't cut it anymore. I have been using the NCOP since it first came out over 6 years ago.
  17. I am an engineering signatory for ACT and NSW. What you are suggesting is certainly possible but not cheap. The new QLD laws have a much higher level if evidence required so the cost has gone up to be more in line with other states. The days for $300 mod plates for very modified cars is gone U think. To engineer what you are talking about in the ACT would be around $2500. Regards Paul
  18. Bob, I have an 18 CFM compressor if you need to borrow it at some stage or just drive over with the car on a trailer. You will need 15 Amp for the compressor though. Probably looking at the long weekend in October for the running gear change over in the KE so will drop the engine and box around once I am done. Cheers Paul
  19. Yep, the thing is minty clean. I love how everything just swaps over :o)
  20. Righto, the suspension out of the Sprinter is in along with the Pug/Hilux brake upgrade. Bulk corner speed with RSR and coilovers, not power though. Will drive it like this for a month or so to make sure that I am happy with it and if all good I will try and take a long weekend from work to put the engine out of the Sprinter into it. Drives much better with just the suspension change, needs to come down about 25mm on the front but would need helper springs due to me not shortening the strut when I did the coilover conversion. May just go for a complete new suspension setup if it all works out and sell these with the Sprinter, if it goes.
  21. Tell me about it the best part is I only paid $800 and the guy threw in a T28 in overrated condition to seal the deal. That turbo us sold for $300 so it really cost me $500. Not bad value considering mist people are asking over $2500 for one as neat as this.
  22. Right so my Sprinter needs some paint and panel to get it up to where I would like it. I have spent far too much on the running gear for it to be sitting in the shed while I get that sorted. I have been looking for a neat AE71/KE70 to put the running gear into. I have had a couple of close ones where I was just a little too slow with the coin but maybe it is all for the best. Picked this up during the week, local car with only 141,000km. Little bit of surface rust in a couple of places but the normal spots that are bad for rust in these are clear. Will have to track down a cross member and pedal box but other than that I it should be a goer. I gave it a wash and a vacuum today. There are some paint chips that I will fix up before I give it a polish. Really happy with is as I keep looking at stuff it keeps surprising me. Still has the original sale receipt and full service history until the young bloke I bought it off got it. The thing starts and drives really well for what it is though there is very little room between the steering wheel and the seat for leg clearance. Will get around this with a aftermarket wheel but I forgot how much difference just having adjustable tilt makes. Will put the stock rims back on as they have new tyres on them and take it down for rego and see how I go before swapping the running gear over and sorting out engineering.
  23. The short answer is yes, that is the same setup that I have on my 4K and it works just fine. I would put some money aside for a proper dyno tune to get the mistures right and a dizzy regraph should be done as well to suit the cam you will be surprised how much better it will go. Cheers Paul
  24. yeah they are try around the $350 mark for a new set from an exhaust shop that is why I decided to try the ebay ones. The issue wasn't so much the floor pan and the fact that the exhaust wanted to go through the middle of the gear box. I was aware of the floor pan issues as I also have a 55 here. Meh, it is all good they are on now with a nice 2.5" after the collector with just a hotdog out the side. And before everyone tells me that I will loosing power with an exhaust that big I know :D If I can't go fast though I want loud. I will be taking it to the track on saturday so I will let you know how it goes. Cheers Paul
  25. Ok guys, I got sick of trying to find a decnet set if second hand extractors and decided to get a set from ebay. They were advertised as fitting KE10- KE70 corollas with the 4K-C engine. I don't know about the other cars but the sure don't fit the KE70 and they are a little on the small side. I basically had to cut them off at the collector to get them to fit and fabricate from there on. It is for my weekend fun car so it doesn't really matter in the long run but I thought that I should let you know to stay away from then as you will be wasting $250. Cheers Paul
