  1. Everything is different.

The KE2x had the TE2x varient overseas so it was already mostly set up to accept a T engine and T box.

The KE1x only had the K engine and K box, so everything to fit will be custom.

In saying that, a 3T can and has been done but is a very tight fit.

  2. Not saying the size doesn't exist (although i believe Australia could be the only market with this tyre in a 14?), it's just that when i was sourcing tyres for a set of MA61's the 185/60/14 weren't suitable.

With Re001's being my first choice, a 195, 205 or 215 would have been ideal in 14's but weren't being produced, most likely due to lack of demand for these sizes particularly in a 60 profile.

    Btw... check the homepage http://advancetyres.com.au/

size is listed different plus buy 4 tyres includes fitting and balancing, which makes the deal a bit better

  3. Ae71 crossmember is obviously too wide, if you were to cut it down you would also have to cut down the rack or find a shorter alternative. This could affect ackerman angles etc, gets too hard to work out.

Ke20 crossmember just fits width wise but mounting holes are a little out.

I have done this and found it pushes the front wheels forward (caster). I couldn't push the crossmember back enough as it then fouls on the pitman/idler arms and steering linkages.

Other pictures i've seen with this done confirms the added caster.

Fitting a rack to Ke1# crossmember won't work too well because the lower wishbone arms get in the way.

It could work if you converted the wishbones to common lca's. A bit of work involved, an engineer should be consulted.

  4. It seems your the one who bought the red one advertised.

You'll find that the ke1x front end is totally different to later models, meaning suspension/strut swaps and the like wont be easy.

Easist upgade is the ke3x/5x/7x discs and calipers, unfortunately it would mean you wont be able to use the stock wheels.

Check the FAQ for more info relating to ke1x.

btw... hows the stock diff holding with the 20v?

  5. I have both ke1x and ke2x disc struts.

The ke1x has akebono calipers and the ke2x I'm unsure as there are no marking other than local manufactured seals (pads are listed for south east asia). I assumed both have the same discs as per manufacturers listings but just took a rough measurement and it does appear the ke2x disc is slightly taller (40mm) than the ke1x disc (36mm).

  6. So your still not convinced. A couple of rear disc brake options: Series 2 RX7, JDM AE86 both of which have 13's as minimum. If you really want to retain the 12's then you're on your own.

It will be a custom job to make small rear disc and calipers fit on the stock diff, and even then you will need to consider brake biasing, master cylinder etc. More effort then it's worth IMO.

Yes "bolting on" has been done with bigger diffs with bigger brakes usually with some mods, but you wont find anything to suit 12's

Perhaps you feel the drums are constantly troublesome because they weren't fixed properly to begin with. Remember that there are alot of brand new small cars still built with drums, obviously they must be still ok.

  7. What exactly is wrong with the rear brakes that can't be fixed? Is it a matter of rear brake cylinders? hand brake cable? adjustment?

The ke10 had the smallest of diffs, even ke20 is slightly wider.

Any diff upgrade will require some mods, either shortening, stud pattern change or just even moving the mounting spots.

More than likely you wont be able to use the standard 12" wheels.

All this would cost significantly more than getting the brakes fixed properly.

  8. I've heard rumour of R31 skyline struts fitting into KE20s fairly easily... If anyone knows any more about that, it might open up the options a bit further...

The R31 struts have the same steering arm bolt spacing as the KE20.

More info about these struts HERE

Although it should probably be taken into account that Ke20 struts have a king pin angle of 8.5deg, R31 are 10.0deg

This would mean you will add about 1.5deg positive camber.

This can be fixed by adding some adjustable camber tops also available through otomoto, which i'd also be interested in a group buy with the coilovers.

  9. I also have one of these in original condition.

Unfortunately the market for them as a classic isn't quite there yet.

Best you can hope for if in good condition with rego is $1000-$2000. No rego rust buckets go from free to $500 (i did get one for free).

Shame really, the Rt40 corona started toyota's repuation as a reliable passenger car.

  10. Hi guys,

I need help with my KE10 Speedo Tacho, it seems to have stopped working completely and i need it working again obviously. :D

What ways should i go about trying to fix it? its probably the cable at one of the ends? snapped maybe?

    Let me know any ideas.

+ maybe i might just update it to a KM speedo + cabling instead of trying to go the MPH again? Is that possible?

    Thank you in advance.

    Cheers

    Simon.

You can fit in a KE20 km/h speedo (hard to find) and replace the cable for good measure.
